Plastic pollution impacts all of us — from wildlife and waterways to public health and our communities. That’s why Humane Action Pennsylvania is proud to lead the Plastics Collaborative, a growing coalition of organizations, businesses, municipalities, and community members working together to reduce single-use plastics across our region.

We’re looking for new partners and supporters who want to help create practical, sustainable solutions through education, advocacy, and collaboration.

Whether you’re a nonprofit, business owner, educator, local leader, or simply someone who cares about the future of our planet, we invite you to join us.

Together, we can build a cleaner, healthier, more compassionate Pennsylvania. 🌎♻️

This Memorial Day, Humane Action Pennsylvania honors and remembers the brave service members who gave their lives in service to our country. 🇺🇸

As we spend time with loved ones today, we pause to reflect on the sacrifices made by so many to protect the freedoms and communities we hold dear.

We also recognize the countless military families, veterans, and service animals whose lives have been shaped by that service and sacrifice.

From all of us at Humane Action Pennsylvania, we wish you a safe, meaningful, and reflective Memorial Day.

Humane Action Pennsylvania is proud to recognize cindybassphilly as our May HAP Hero for her leadership in introducing legislation to ban the sale of force-fed animal products, including foie gras, in Philadelphia earlier this month.

Building on our successful 2023 Pittsburgh victory, this proposal marks an important step toward ending one of the cruelest practices in industrial animal agriculture.

Foie gras is produced by force-feeding ducks and geese through tubes inserted down their throats multiple times per day, causing their livers to enlarge far beyond normal size. Animal welfare advocates and veterinarians have long raised serious concerns about the suffering associated with this practice. Similar bans have already been enacted in places like California and Pittsburgh, with momentum continuing to grow nationwide.

Councilmember Bass has long been a champion for Philadelphia communities, and we are deeply grateful for her willingness to advance compassionate policy that reflects the values of so many residents who oppose extreme animal cruelty.

Humane Action Pennsylvania is proud to be leading this campaign and looks forward to continuing to build support for the bill in the months ahead. Stay tuned for opportunities to take action and help make Philadelphia the next major U.S. city to reject the cruelty of force-feeding. 💛

Thank you to Crossings Animal Society for the opportunity to join your wonderful breakfast fundraiser in Newtown!

Humane Action Pennsylvania Director of Operations Shannon Dickerson was proud to speak alongside Brian Hackett, Director of Government and Community Relations at Associated Humane Societies. Together, Brian and Shannon spoke about the importance of animal advocacy and engaging more people in companion animal legislation efforts across both Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

It was also wonderful spending the morning with Yvonne and Karen of Crossings Animal Society, along with so many passionate advocates working to create a more compassionate world for animals.

We’re always grateful for opportunities to connect with fellow organizations, share ideas, and strengthen the movement for animals together. Thank you again for your hospitality, support, and dedication to animals throughout Pennsylvania and New Jersey! 🐾

Please join us in welcoming Ursula Smith to the Humane Action Pennsylvania team! 🎉

Ursula joins HAP as our new Administrative Assistant through the Senior Job Placement Program, bringing with her an incredible background in healthcare, administration, and community care.

Over the course of her career, Ursula worked as a Radiation Therapist and later as a Medical Transcriptionist. She also holds a Bachelor of Business Administration in Healthcare Management and recently expanded her expertise into artificial intelligence, completing an AI bootcamp through StackRoute in partnership with Point Park University.

Beyond her professional experience, Ursula has long been dedicated to helping animals. From rescuing wildlife as a child to helping feral and abandoned animals find loving homes, compassion has always guided her work.

Ursula shared that what drew her most to HAP is our belief that the mistreatment of animals and the mistreatment of people are often deeply connected — and that creating a more humane world means caring for all living beings.

We are thrilled to have Ursula on our team and cannot wait for you to meet her! 💙
