Our Lady of Mount Carmel Ladies of Charity

The Ladies of Charity at OLMC minister to those among us undergoing challenging circumstances. The Ladies of Charity were founded in 1617 by St. Vincent de Paul.

Through the assistance of St. Louise de Marillac and St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, they responded to the needs of the poor. Working without recognition for their efforts, they ministered to the poor among them. The Ladies of Charity at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Parish strive to follow the example of these saints by ministering to those among us undergoing challenging circumstances. We meet on the third Monday of the month, generally from September through June. Our meetings are held at Schoppol Hall on the St. Teresa of Avila campus at 6:00 p.m. You are cordially invited to attend.

It’s a special day in the City of Pittsburgh! Councilwoman Theresa Kail Smith sponsored proclamations from the City Council declaring today, September 30, as Bishop Emeritus David A. Zubik and Bishop Mark A. Eckman Day!
The proclamations took place today in the City Council Chambers of the City-County Building in Downtown Pittsburgh. They honored Bishop Zubik’s faithful service to the Catholic Church and the Diocese of Pittsburgh for more than five decades, and Bishop Eckman’s devotion to serving of God and the people of the Diocese of Pittsburgh through his decades of ministry.
Congratulations to both of our bishops! Please say a prayer for them today. 🙏🏻🥳🙏🏻 Diocese of Pittsburgh U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops

Pope Leo XIV marked his 71st birthday on September 14, 2026, receiving messages of good wishes from around the world, including from the Italian Bishops’ Conference.

Born in Chicago on September 14, 1955, the Pope has spent the first year of his pontificate emphasizing peace, unity, and human dignity. He has spoken of an “unarmed and disarming” peace more than 400 times, underscoring reconciliation as essential to ending conflict.

His Apostolic Journeys included Türkiye and Lebanon for the 1,700th anniversary of the Council of Nicaea, as well as historic first visits to Monaco and Algeria. He closed the 2025 Jubilee Year by shutting the Holy Door of St. Peter’s and issued his first encyclical, Magnifica humanitas, on artificial intelligence and human dignity. He also completed the exhortation Dilexi te on love for the poor.

As he enters his 72nd year, these themes of peace, unity, and the defense of the human person remain central to his ministry.

Happy birthday, Pope Leo!
