Raising $40,000 for the Next 40 Years!

In 2026, HPNA celebrates 40 years. To honor this milestone and the many accomplishments along the way, the Hospice and Palliative Nurses Foundation (HPNF) is raising $40,000 to invest in the future.

These funds will help continue to impact the careers of thousands of nurses, expand access to grants and scholarships that support education and certification, and advance initiatives and research that strengthen communities and elevate hospice and palliative care.

Meet HPNA’s Volunteer of the Month: Rory Farrand, MS, MA, MSN, APRN-BC!

Rory is a Senior Consultant at Confidis Consulting. She has been actively involved with the Advocacy Committee, Awards Committee, mentoring, and was a contributor to the new Orientation Guide.

When asked about her volunteer experience, she explained "volunteering with HPNA supports my deep commitment to advancing the nursing profession within palliative care. Serving on the Membership Awards Committee and contributing to the recent Orientation Guide, as examples, both allows me to celebrate and elevate fellow nurses making meaningful contributions to hospice and palliative care, while also giving back to the community that shaped my own 20+ year journey in this field. As a nurse first, HPNA represents my professional identity in a way that grounds all my other interdisciplinary and policy work."

Thank you for the incredible work you do, Rory!

You don’t have to do this work alone. Finding your people, building community, and staying connected through colleagues and organizations are essential to sustaining both practice and purpose.

In the newest episode of the Palliative Perspective Podcast, “Finding Our Professional Home: Community, Connection, and the Future of Hospice & Palliative Nursing,” host Brett Snodgrass, DNP, FNP-C, ACHPN, FAANP, is joined by Betty Ferrell, RN, PhD, MA, CHPN®, FAAN, FPCN®.

At the heart of this conversation is the idea of a “professional home.” Drawing on the foundational work of pioneers like Florence Wald and Cicely Saunders, Betty highlights the enduring importance of interprofessional, whole-person care—and the need to stay grounded in those values as the field evolves.
