Introducing Mustafa and Adrian! 🐾💜
These two tiny guys are two of our most recent pups from the urgent list in San Antonio. Unfortunately, sweet little Mustafa arrived with an injured eye and is also heartworm positive. 💔 He is now one of FOUR heartworm-positive dogs currently in our care, so if you’re able to donate toward their treatment, even a few dollars truly helps us keep saying yes to dogs like Mustafa.
Mustafa and Adrian will also likely be our final intakes of the year.
Somewhere in the middle of all the chaos, we quietly passed a pretty incredible milestone: A Friend in Need’s first anniversary! 🎉 And we’ve been so swamped that we almost didn’t notice.
In our first year, we took in 62 dogs. SIXTY-TWO! 🤯
That number might seem small compared with larger rescues, but to us, it’s absolutely staggering. When we started A Friend in Need, our plan was to save maybe one or two dogs a month. We quickly learned just how dire the need is for small-breed dogs on shelter urgent lists, and it became incredibly difficult to say no when we knew we could help.
But we’ve also learned that we can’t save every dog at once. We stretched ourselves much further than we ever intended, and with more than 20 dogs currently in foster care, it’s time for us to hit pause. After Mustafa and Adrian, we’ll be going on a total intake hold until our current foster dogs find their forever homes.
Over the coming days, we’ll be sharing more of our adoptable dogs, along with a few “state of the rescue” posts as we look back on our first year: what worked, what didn’t, what we learned, and the changes we’re making going forward so that A Friend in Need can continue helping dogs for many years to come.
For now, welcome to the family, Mustafa and Adrian. 💜 You’re safe now, little guys.
