Bethel Park Volunteer Fire Company 100% Volunteer The Bethel Park Volunteer Fire Company (BPVFC) is comprised of all volunteer members from many different walks of life.

Most volunteer firefighters also have regular jobs. We are salespeople, bankers, teachers, and electricians, to name a few. We leave our families and sometimes our jobs, to put our lives on the line when disasters strike. There is no monetary compensation or reward involved. We do it to help our fellow residents of Bethel Park and for the satisfaction of knowing that we make a difference in the li

ves of our neighbors. We maintain 3 fire stations with a total of 10 vehicles and a specialized rescue trailer. The stations are located on Brightwood Road, Clifton Road and Milford Drive. The BPVFC holds drills 3 times a month on Monday nights. We train at various locations in and around Bethel Park. A new member is required to attend essentials of fire fighting classes that average 180 hours in their first 2 years. Other classes that our firefighters take include Hazmat Operations, Emergency Vehicle Operations, and Rapid Intervention Team. When the municipal emergency dispatchers receive a call for the fire department they set off pagers to alert the firefighters about the emergency. Volunteers will drive to the nearest fire station. They may use blue lights as a courtesy to get to the station quickly. Depending on the nature and size of the incident, we may call in mutual aid from other communities. We also provide the same help to other communities in the area. BPVFC responds to over 600 emergencies annually.

Earlier this week, the Bethel Park Volunteer Fire Company proudly welcomed our brand-new Engine 2 into service at the Milford Station, and we did it the way the fire service has done it for generations: by pushing her in by hand.

The "push in" is one of the oldest traditions in the fire service. Back in the 1800s, fire apparatus were hand-drawn and later horse-drawn. When a rig returned from a call, the horses could be led forward into the station but couldn't easily back themselves into the bay, so the firefighters would physically push the apparatus back into quarters by hand.

When motorized engines arrived and the horses retired, departments held onto the ritual. Today, "pushing in" a new engine is a way of honoring those who came before us, formally placing a piece of apparatus into service, and reminding everyone that no matter how much the technology changes, this job still comes down to people standing shoulder to shoulder.

A huge thank-you to everyone who came out, and to every resident whose support makes apparatus like this possible.

Congratulations to Volunteer Firefighters Natalie Daniels and Ronin Lanning who were just presented their yellow helmets by our Chief, Russ Beeson. We have several different color helmets and the yellow helmet designates an interior firefighter who has earned their Firefighter I qualification. Thank you for your commitment and devotion to the Municipality of Bethel Park!

As of 8:00am this morning, July 13, 2026, Bethel Park has transitioned dispatch services to Allegheny County Emergency Services (ACES) 911.

🚨Please dial 911 for all emergencies moving forward. ACES 911 will dispatch the appropriate Bethel Park fire, police, and EMS services to all emergency calls.

Businesses and residential locations with private alarm systems should contact their alarm service provider to ensure that starting on July 13, 2026, all emergency notifications will be handled by Allegheny County Emergency Services (ACES) via 911.

Residents should advise their alarm company to call 412-473-3370 to notify ACES of an alarm or emergency.

We are now halfway through 2026 and the second half of the year is proving to be extremely busy. As of 1pm we have already responded to 8 calls for response today. This brings our total to 449 calls so far in 2026. This time last year we had responded to 342 calls. If this pace keeps up, we will far exceed the total of 634 that we responded to last year.

Last night at drill we practiced flowing high volumes of water to prepare us for commercial fires or residential fires in which we can't easily reach the structure or where we take a defensive stance.

Thank you to the fine folks at Rita's who treated our members to some delicious ice cream and Italian ice after a long, hot night at drill.
