Attention neighbors! The Village Collaborative, East Liberty’s Registered Community Organization, will be hosting an informational meeting about the proposed designs for Enright Park on Monday, April 18, 2022 at 6 PM via Zoom.

This is an important meeting for Enright Park neighbors to join. To the best of our knowledge, The Village Collaborative does not include any residents from the Enright Park area of the neighborhood. As the near neighbors of the park, it’s critical that we are part of the conversation as the park design and operations will impact our residents the most.

We are thrilled to announce that the Enright Community Garden is now permanently protected and under the auspices of the Allegheny Land Trust! Thank you to all the volunteers, Kentucky Avenue School, and neighbors who have been working to make this a community space over the years.

Why did we fight to keep the rebuilt Eva Street a public street? Why did Judge O’Toole give public park land to be a private street? Why were Council and the Mayor eager to support him?

Private streets adjacent to public amenities are anti-democratic and incompatible with community.

A Black Lives Matter march through a gated community highlighted the decisions that divide the city.

Bloomfield Development Corp. and Bloomfield-Garfield Corp. are co-hosting a community meeting to discuss the Port Authority's planned consolidation of bus stops along the 88 Penn route. 24 stops will be removed throughout the route that runs from downtown to 5th Avenue. The meeting will be held this coming Thursday, January 23, at 5:30pm in the BGC Activity Center, 113 N. Pacific Ave, 15224. A flyer is attached below.

This meeting is happening so quickly because the Port Authority board meeting is 1/24 and their comment period is VERY short.

As of this morning, the playground at Enright Park is permanently closed and the trees on the north side of the park are coming down. Even knowing that it was coming, it's a hard day filled with emotion, much like watching the wrecking ball hit the first building son Penn Plaza.

We don't have a timeline for the new park yet, but we are anxious to make sure that it is moving forward, and will keep everyone updated.

Seen in the park this morning. We’re sorry to announce that, sometime next week, a fence will go up from Eva Street to the other side of the park, running between the basketball courts. This marks the beginning of the demolition of the northern end of the park.

At some point, the land between the park and Euclid (formerly Penn Circle West) will he added to the remaining park, and the park plan developed by the city a year ago will be implemented. Funds for the final design have been allocated, and much of the construction funding has been identified, but we don’t have a timeline, and we don’t expect to have a full park again this year.

This is heartbreaking, but we’ve known it was coming for quite awhile, and we do think the reconfigured and renewed park will be a great community gathering place, even though we’ll never get over the loss of the trees that will be coming down in coming weeks.

Thanks again for all of your support over the past 4 1/2 years. It’s not the outcome we most wanted, but it’s far, far better than what was originally proposed, and we couldn’t have won what we did without your help.
