It is with great joy and honor that I introduce to you the Opus Novum Service Team for the Fall 2025 semester: Andrew Pearce, Coordinator and head of the Intercessory Prayer Ministry; Kristen Lavallee, Assistant Coordinator and head of the Stewardship Ministry; Grace Kennevan, Public Relations Officer and head of the Evangelization Ministry; Erin Kirk, General Secretary and head of the Teaching Ministry; and JJ Glaneman, Treasurer and head of the Praise and Worship Ministry.

We also joyfully welcomed Jaheem Glasgow, who was commissioned tonight as an active member of our ministries. We are excited to see how he will serve and grow within our community.

Each of these leaders gave their wholehearted “yes” to the call of servant leadership at tonight’s Commissioning Meeting. Their unique gifts and generous hearts will undoubtedly bless and strengthen the Opus Novum community.

Please keep them in your prayers.
Come, Holy Spirit ❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥

Dear Opus Novum Community,

We humbly ask for your support to make our annual retreat a reality. This year, we will be heading to Rednal Retreat House from April 25-27 for a weekend of praise, prayer, Sacraments, and spiritual formation. Your generosity will help make this retreat possible for all who are attending.

To make a donation, please visit: https://www.spirit.duq.edu/project/46312 . We also highly encourage you to share this post with your friends so that more people can join in supporting this important retreat.

Additionally, we’ve created a crowdfunding video featuring our Service Team—Erin Kirk, Kristen Lavallee, and Andrew Pearce—as well as members Dillena Carter and JJ Glaneman. 🔥 Prayer ❤️‍🔥 Praise ❤️‍🔥 Formation ❤️‍🔥 Evangelization ❤️‍🔥Fellowship ❤️‍🔥 Hearts on Fire 🔥 – This is who we are at Opus Novum.

This past weekend, we were blessed to host a gathering of Renewal leaders from around the world for a powerful time of praise and prayer. Hearts on fire from Poland, Belgium, Slovakia, Congo, England, and Qatar came together in love to experience the gifts of the Holy Spirit and to return to the roots of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal at Duquesne University of the Holy Spirit. What an incredible blessing it was to meet and connect with these passionate disciples.

This semester, we've been immersed in prayer, formation, and fellowship. We've been privileged to have our spiritual directors, ambassadors, and faculty advisor join us for insightful formational talks. As we approach the conclusion of the Life in the Spirit Seminar, several members are preparing to receive the Baptism of the Holy Spirit on March 12th. Our community has shared in the joy of breaking bread together, enjoying meals at hibachi and Mexican restaurants after Mass. We've also come together for daily Mass and encouraged one another to seek the Lord through Eucharistic Adoration.

Looking ahead, we are excited for the many events lined up after spring break, including our annual retreat, bowling night, guys' night out, ladies' tea, and more!

What are you waiting for? Join a community on fire for the Lord at Duquesne University. Reach out to us at [email protected] for more information. God bless you, and Come Holy Spirit! ✝️🔥

Who We Are & What We Do:

Opus Novum Catholic Charismatic Renewal is a collegiate charismatic community founded at Duquesne in 2018. Our mission is to foster the dynamic charismatic graces of the Holy Spirit within Duquesne’s campus. Our vision—as expressed in our Handbook—states: “Opus Novum invites all students to experience the Holy Spirit who opens us to a life-changing relationship with Jesus Christ and the profound encounter with the love of the Father. The Holy Spirit empowers us for personal holiness, renewed Catholic life, and evangelization. The vision is a Collegiate Catholic Community founded upon the Catholic Charismatic Renewal. Opus Novum is not an escape from the problems of worldly life, but a visible community of students who seek to enter into the Heart of God and receive the gifts necessary for the building up of the Kingdom” (ONCCR Handbook).

Our name, “Opus Novum,” means “The New Work.” This reflects the mission of the group—to participate in the new work that God is doing at Duquesne, as well as in each of our personal lives. Our group verse is Isaiah 43:19 (RSVCE)—"Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.” As a group, we seek to be attentive to the Holy Spirit and all that He is bringing about in our lives, as we surrender our plans, open our hearts, and allow God to do a new thing in us.

An essential part of our identity is our community life. We truly revere each other as brothers and sisters, and this intense charity is tangible at every Opus Novum meeting and event. Through communal prayer, personal sharing, and times of fellowship, we come to know each other and build each other up as we strive for holiness together. Though we began with just six students at our first meeting, the Lord continues to bring us new members and grow our community!

We hold formal prayer meetings once a week, but all throughout the week, students from Opus Novum remain in communion: going to Mass together, sharing meals, hanging out and studying. Our weekly meetings include things like praise and worship, general charismatic prayer, intercessory prayer, Scripture studies, testimonies, small group sharing, and talks from guests. We are very grateful for the involvement of our Spiritan priests, our group Spiritual Directors Fr. Mike Ackerman and Fr. Mike Faix and other priests from the Diocese of Pittsburgh; the DLJC Sisters from the Ark and the Dove; and our faculty advisor, Dr. James Swindal—among many others who love and serve our community!
