We're excited to announce that AIU Executive Director Robert Scherrer, Ed.D., recently joined the Eradicate Hate Board of Directors as one of six new members. These additions expand Eradicate Hate's global reach and efforts to prevent all forms of hate-fueled violence.

“Empowering youth with the tools they need to prevent hate-fueled violence and feel secure at school is a passion of mine,” Dr. Scherrer said. “As a member of Eradicate Hate’s Board, I will be able to work closely with experts across different fields to find feasible solutions to violence prevention.”

Dr. Bonnie Betler, principal of Moore Elementary School in the Brentwood Borough School District, loves creating a welcoming community for students and their families.

"Those connections and relationships with people are what make being a principal so rewarding," Dr. Betler said. "There is nothing better than seeing students happy, learning, and when they return, exited to be here."

Dr. Betler was one of 15 local principals selected as a Penguins Most Valuable Principal this year. Read her Q&A here: https://loom.ly/POjmq5E

About 150 high school students from 17 local schools put their interview skills to the test last week at our Training and Consultation Program’s 15th Annual Mock It Til You Rock It! event.

Thanks to the support of volunteers from 25 employers, students had the opportunity to practice, receive feedback, and build confidence for future career opportunities. We are especially grateful to UPMC Workplace Culture & Community Engagement for their generous $8,500 sponsorship, and to Corey Consulting for their $500 donation to help support the initiative.

Today we're recognizing Michele Stillwagon, a home-based visitor for the AIU's Head Start Program! Michele brings her 41 years of Early Childhood Ed experience to support families and their children with home-based learning. Michele currently works with 11 families to set goals, track childhood development, and connect them with health and wellness resources. For Michele, the most rewarding part of home-visiting is when families reach out and share important milestones and events in their child's development.

"Building relationships is the best part of this work. I appreciate all the families that welcome me into their homes and to engage with their child's education journey." - Michele Stillwagon
