The Tree of Life

The Tree of Life A new locally grounded institution with national reach on a mission to uproot antisemitism and identity-based hate.

On October 27, 2018, 11 Jews from three congregations were murdered while worshiping in the deadliest antisemitic attack in the United States. In the days that followed, the Pittsburgh community and the world came together to loudly oppose antisemitism and hate. As they began to pick up the pieces and rebuild, Tree of Life Congregation members and community leaders sought to build on the collectiv

e communal response to 10/27 and transform the site into one of light, hope and possibility. In 2022, they launched the Tree of Life, a national institution dedicated to uprooting antisemitism and identity-based hate through remembrance, education, celebration, and connection. Housed in a building designed by renowned architect and child of Holocaust survivors, Daniel Libeskind, the Tree of Life is a locally grounded institution with broad national reach. We are a place that celebrates Jewish life and tradition, and honors our shared humanity. We remember each victim and the collective communal response in the wake of the horror that happened here. Tree of Life is a place that educates people of all ages and backgrounds, builds connection, and inspires courageous action to create compassionate communities.

Judaism teaches us that every person is b'tzelem Elohim—created in the image of God.

Pride Month is a powerful reminder that no matter who you are, who you love, or how you identify, you deserve to be treated with dignity, respect, and compassion.

This month, we celebrate the LGBTQ+ community and our shared humanity.

Last week, REACH hosted The Ties That Bind, a powerful conversation bringing together family members and survivors from Pittsburgh and Parkland to reflect on resilience, remembrance, and the bonds formed through community support.

Through stories of care, compassion, and solidarity, the evening highlighted how communities impacted by tragedy can come together to support one another and create lasting connections.

Thank you to our partners and for helping make this meaningful event possible. We are grateful to everyone who joined us as we continue to share stories, foster understanding, and build a future rooted in humanity.

REACH is a project of the 10.27 Healing Partnership that supports families and survivors of the Pittsburgh synagogue shooting in sharing their stories to remember, educate, and combat hate.

More from our recent sanctuary visit. Last week, we welcomed members of the press inside the future home of our rebuilt space in Pittsburgh for a closer look at the sanctuary taking shape. As construction continues, so does our commitment to creating a place rooted in remembrance, resilience, and community.

Last week marked an important chapter for The Tree of Life.

From the opening of our traveling exhibition, Lessons from The Tree of Life: Lighting the Path Forward, in Broward County to welcoming members of the press inside the future home of our rebuilt space in Pittsburgh, we were reminded that remembrance and resilience can exist side by side.

As construction continues on our new sanctuary and educational spaces, we remain committed to building a future rooted in memory, hope, and humanity.

Thank you to the journalists, community partners, and supporters helping share this story and carry it forward.

An evening rooted in remembrance, reflection, and shared humanity.

This week, community leaders, faith leaders, students, and neighbors gathered in Broward County to celebrate Jewish American Heritage Month and the opening of “Lessons from The Tree of Life: Lighting the Path Forward.” Together, we reflected on the power of connection, the importance of confronting hate, and the responsibility we all share to build more compassionate communities.

Thank you to our partners Nova Southeastern University and Jewish Federation of Broward County and to Debbie Wasserman Schultz for helping bring this meaningful evening to life.

Thank you for joining us this week to kick off the opening of our exhibition in Broward County.

As we celebrate Jewish American Heritage Month, we’re honored to bring “Lessons from The Tree of Life: Lighting the Path Forward” to a new community — creating space for conversation, reflection, and connection.

This exhibition not only highlights the rich history of Jewish life in America, but also reminds us that we are all rooted in a shared humanity. Together, we can choose a path forward grounded in compassion, understanding, and hope.
