Pennsylvania Department of Human Services Secretary Dr. Val Arkoosh today announced that eligible households will receive a $100 supplemental payment from the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP).

PA DHS will issue the $100 supplemental payments for households that both received LIHEAP during the 2025-26 season and include at least one family member who has a disability, is age 60 or older, or is a child under the age of six. Approximately 193,000 households will be automatically issued a supplemental payment to the same utility vendor who received their cash grant during the normal LIHEAP season. Households will receive a notice informing them that they are eligible and will receive the supplement.

“We know that even though winter is over, many Pennsylvanians may still need assistance with utility bills from last season. LIHEAP helps some of the Commonwealth's most vulnerable citizens – children, older Pennsylvanians, people with disabilities, and low-income families – make ends meet and keep their homes safer, and we are pleased to be able to offer this one-time supplemental payment to LIHEAP households,” said Secretary Arkoosh.

Not only do we need to change the Social Security COLA to better reflect the inflation seniors experience, we also need to scrap the cap so that Social Security and accurate COLAs can be fully funded for the next century.

The Social Security 2100 Act would modify the formula used to determine annual COLAs between 2027 and 2036.

The Alliance for Retired Americans is calling on Congress to take action to protect seniros from Medicare scams on Facebook. Meta (Facebook's parent company) takes in about $16 billion per year from online scams. It can afford to do a lot more to protect seniors from being scammed out of their hard-earned savings. But Meta won't unless Congress makes them institute protections for us. You can tell your Congressmember that you want them to hold Meta accountable and ensure scams do not spread on its platforms.

Retirement groups said seniors have lost millions of dollars while Meta profits from the ads.

The Pennsylvania Alliance for Retired Americans intervened in this case, and last week we found out we scored a victory for voting rights in our state!

The U.S. Justice Department has lost yet another court battle in the Trump administration's crusade to gain unfettered access to state voter rolls.

Voting rights are under attacks in many ways. We celebrate this one victory affirming mail-in voting rights.

The Trump administration must tell the American people what their plans are for Social Security. The retirement age doesn't have to be raised. The Social Security Trust Fund doesn't have to become insolvent. Seniors don't have to experience cuts to their Social Security checks. There is a simple solution: scrap the cap on income taxed for Social Security so that the wealthy pay year-round into Social Security, just as tens of millions of workers in this country do.

In a new letter to President Donald Trump, Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., asks what the administration's plans are for Social Security reform.
