Lawrenceville Pittsburgh

Lawrenceville Pittsburgh Lawrenceville is a historic city neighborhood, known for its locally owned business district!

The Lawrenceville Corporation was formed in January 2000 as a merger of the Lawrenceville Development Corporation (LDC) and the Lawrenceville Business Association (LBA). Both the LBA and LDC had been in existence since the mid-1980s and were formed in response to neighborhood decline stemming from Pittsburgh’s economic crisis during the 1970s and 1980s. The merger yielded a new organization with a

strong combined board of directors: the Lawrenceville Corporation. The organizational mission, membership, and much of the programming trace back to the original two entities. Since the merger, the LC has gained local and national recognition for its innovative niche marketing programs like the 16:62 Design Zone and the Doughboy branding campaign, recruitment efforts that have yielded numerous destination-type retail and restaurant businesses, and the commercial and residential efforts throughout the neighborhood.

Our June Member Spotlight is… !

Proprietor, Gary Gigliotti, was told by his father Pasquale at a young age he should be a butcher or own a deli because, “people always need to eat.” He followed that advice and worked in restaurant management for 20 years before opening Deli on Butler 18 years ago.

The deli has become a staple in the neighborhood for lunch and even features a sandwich named after Gary’s Dad (The Pasquale: roast beef, ham and turkey, red onions, provolone, lettuce, tomato, colby cheese and the Deli’s special sauce)!

The menu features rotating soups, sandwiches, paninis, wraps, hoagies, salads, and more. They also have chips, cookies, and cold drinks to go along with your meals. Deli on Butler also offers catering for any event with options including sandwich rings, veggie trays, boxed lunches, and deli salads.

You can often find Gary posted up in the back of the dining area hard at work on his laptop - taking breaks to greet people and dogs from the neighborhood. Gary contributes the success over the years to his amazing customers and the hardworking, friendly staff that have been with him for this fantastic ride.

Stop by soon to get a great lunch, meet the incredible staff, and thank Gary for his dedication to keeping Lawrenceville fed for nearly two decades!

Join us on June 16th at Lolev to learn more about this community informed public robot design project from the CMU Human-Computer Interaction Institute.

Kara Kimicata, our Community Outreach Manager, sits on the Advisory Committee and will be present as well.

This National Science Foundation-funded project is working to get ideas from the community on how they design robots that operate in public. All are welcome to share their thoughts at this public meeting.

They will also share new simulation tools they are building and talk about further opportunities to engage with their research.
