Homeless Veterans Project

Homeless Veterans Project Ending Veteran Homelessness Who are we, what do we do and why? Following are some short answers, with links to more thorough responses:
Gen. Shinseki’s mission.

Thank you for your interest in the Homeless Veterans Project and our effort to create an important piece of history, making this region the first in the Union to end veteran homelessness. Eric Shinseki is Secretary of The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. On Nov. 4, 2009 he called on every American to join him in an historic mission to eliminate homelessness among our military veteran populatio

Responding to the General’s call was the Upper St. Clair (PA) Founders Fund, a civic group formed in 2004 by University of Iowa Head Football Coach Kirk Ferentz, Mike Fornear and Jeff Joyce in their mutual hometown. Click here for more on the Founders Fund. In July 2011, the group approached The Big Ten about joining us in promoting Gen. The Conference’s generous response was potentially game-changing, one sure to draw dramatically increased national attention to the cause. Starting Nov. 1 and running through the December 3, 2011 the Letterwinners Associations will create the "Letterwinners Challenge”. Click here for more on this unprecedented endeavor. Beneficiaries will be non-profits in the Midwest region that help formerly homeless vets address their issues, reclaim their lives and return to society. Click here for a list of projects we will initially support. The Letterwinners Challenge will be a high-profile kickoff to our ongoing efforts. We are in this battle to win, and we define winning as completely ending veteran homelessness in the Midwest region. How can you, your company or group join in creating this important and necessary piece of history? Click here. The Homeless Veterans Project exists for two obvious reasons. First, in this great nation, even one homeless vet is one too many. Second, given the nearly unimaginable resources of the extended region, we can undoubtedly respond to General Shinseki’s call and make our states the first in the nation to end the abomination of veteran homelessness.
