Lending Hearts Lending Hearts provides emotional, social & physical support to children and young adults living with cancer through unique activities and community outreach.

Our vision is a world where children and young adults living with cancer don’t feel alone. According to Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh (CHP), approximately 9000 children and adolescents are seen each year in their oncology department. Pittsburgh has world class medical facilities, decorated sports teams and acclaimed regard for the arts. What the city does not have an organization focused on pediatric cancer support outside of the hospital setting. These youth need an organization to call their own through which they can interact with their peers and not feel different. They need an opportunity to be with those who are experiencing similar changes. These youth not only have to stay strong against cancer, but they also have to deal with the daily demands of being a child or teenager in today’s society. They need an opportunity to escape those daily stresses. They deserve the opportunity to engage in social activities and enriching experiences.

Stress, uncertainty, changing routines and the demands of treatment can affect the entire person—and the people who love them.

That is why Lending Hearts believes support should make room for emotional wellness, movement, connection and the everyday needs that come with navigating cancer.

There is no single way to need support. And there should not be only one way to receive it.

💜 FLASHBACK: A day we’re still smiling about! ⚾

Last month, 100 Lending Hearts youth, families and guests joined us at PNC Park for the Pittsburgh Pirates Cancer Support Game—and what a day it was!

From taking the field and shouting “PLAY BALL!” to being part of the Pierogi Race, enjoying the game from the World Series Suites and sharing unforgettable moments together, the day was about so much more than baseball.

For children and young adults living with cancer—and the families who walk beside them—experiences like these offer a chance to step away from appointments, treatments and worries and simply enjoy being together.

To laugh. To cheer. To feel special. To make memories.

We are incredibly grateful to the Pittsburgh Pirates and Pirates Charities for continuing to create these meaningful opportunities for our Lending Hearts families. 💜💛
