It’s and tomorrow is World Bicycle Day, so we’re heading to Deer Lakes Park for the perfect bike ride! 🚴‍♂️🌲

One great way to ride here is to use the park roads for climbing and then enjoy the singletrack on the way down. Deer Lakes offers smooth-rolling singletrack that follows the park’s blazed trails, making for a fun and flowing ride.

On your descent, keep an eye out for several trails worth exploring, including the white trail, purple/black dot trail, purple/white connector, blue blaze loop, powerline loop and orange loop. Be sure to check a trail map ahead of time so you’re prepared for intermediate conditions and can choose a route that fits your comfort level.

See you on the trails and happy World Bicycle Day! 💚🚲

Thanks to the incredible generosity of our community, we've climbed past our original $20,000 goal for the North Park Observation Tower Restoration! Every additional dollar raised will strengthen our contingency fund and help ensure the successful completion of the project. As a thank you, every donor will still receive a special-edition Observation Tower sticker as a small reminder that you helped bring this landmark back to life. Let’s bring back the view — together. 💚 Learn more: https://acparksfoundation.org/observation-tower-a-place-remembered/

Today we teamed up with FedEx volunteers to plant 25 native redbud trees at Settlers Cabin Park as part of our Park Entrance Enhancements project. This small but mighty crew made the east entrance to the park more welcoming, sustainable and better equipped to manage stormwater runoff. 🌱 Earlier this spring, professional landscapers also planted 13 native conifers as a part of this project. Together, this diverse mix of trees will create new habitat for the animals and insects that call Settlers Cabin Park home. We would like to extend a huge thank you to the hard-working volunteers, to FedEx for funding for this project, which was a recommendation in the Ecological Assessment and Action Plan for Settlers Cabin Park, and to the Allegheny County Parks Department for their partnership on this planting. 💚

It's and today, the day after Memorial Day, we’re reflecting on the history woven into our parks. Along the Silver Beaver – Log House Service Road Trail in Boyce Park, you’ll find this interpretive sign marking a moment from November 1758. General John Forbes and 2,500 troops passed through this very landscape on their way to capture Fort Duquesne during the French and Indian War.

Today, this 1.05-mile trail offers a gentle, wooded walk that is rated as easy. As we pause after Memorial Day, we’re reminded that our parks are places to learn, explore and connect with the stories that shaped our region. 💚

Happy Memorial Day! This holiday, we invite you to spend time outdoors reflecting, remembering and reconnecting in your favorite park. Whether it’s a quiet walk on a trail or time with family under the trees, your county parks offer space to honor the day in your own meaningful way.

Please note our office will be closed Monday, May 25 in observance of the holiday.

For generations, the North Park Observation Tower has been part of family celebrations and traditions. Though it’s been closed for decades, it has never been forgotten. As we move closer to restoring this treasured landmark, we’re reflecting both on the memories it holds and the new ones still waiting to be made! 💚

This , we’re heading to Round Hill Park, where spring is in full swing and the farm is coming alive with new energy. From grazing pasture views to barnyard activity, Round Hill offers a chance to connect with agriculture, nature and seasonal rhythms right here in Allegheny County. Part of that seasonal rhythm is the arrival of new life at the farm, with baby animals joining the pastures and experiencing their first days at Round Hill.

When you visit, you’ll experience a working farm setting where livestock, cultivated fields and open pasture come together as part of a living landscape shaped by both nature and stewardship. Self-guided tours are available daily 8:00 am -4:00 pm, or you can visit Allegheny County’s website to participate in one of their free farm tours: https://www.alleghenycounty.us/Parks-and-Events/Activities/Special-Interest/Farm-Tours

As we head into a week that often centers around celebration and gathering, we’re celebrating something simple: the joy of spring in the parks, the changes it brings and time spent outside with family experiencing it together.

🌱 What’s something you’ve noticed or learned about spring in Round Hill Park during your visits?
