Girls on the Run Magee-Womens Hospital Pittsburgh

Girls on the Run Magee-Womens Hospital Pittsburgh Girls on the Run at Magee-Womens Hospital of UPMC is an affiliate council of Girls on the Run International.

We use the power of running to inspire girls to develop self-respect and value healthy lifestyles. Girls on the Run (GOTR) is a life-changing, non-profit prevention program that uses the power of running to help girls in 3rd-8th grade develop self-respect and value a healthy lifestyle. Our curriculum addresses the development of the whole girl – her physical, emotional, mental and social well-bein

g. The program combines training for a 5k (3.1) mile running event with healthy living education. The curriculum empowers girls with a greater sense of self-awareness, a sense of achievement and a foundation in team building, as well as a commitment to making a positive difference in their communities, all of which help them become strong, contented and self-confident women.

Today, we commemorate Juneteenth — a day to honor freedom, resilience, and the ongoing pursuit of justice for Black communities across the country. It’s a time to reflect, celebrate the impact of Black Americans, and recognize the strength that comes from unity. At Girls on the Run, we believe every girl deserves the opportunity and support to reach her full potential. We’re dedicated to building spaces where joy, connection, and community can grow for girls from all backgrounds. As we honor this pivotal day in U.S. history, we recommit to a future that is inclusive and equitable.

A simple act of kindness can spark powerful change. In the Girls on the Run program, participants create a Community Impact Project utilizing the skills and confidence they developed over the season. Through the planning and implementation of this project, girls get the chance to lead with heart, work as a team, and inspire positivity in their local community. By learning the value of giving back, girls also discover the importance of treating others with compassion and empathy.

From 5K water station attendants to office helpers to committee members, our volunteers are the glue that holds every GOTR season together. Our volunteers go above and beyond to employ their unique skills to ensure girls and their families have a joyful experience. Behind every effort is a shared passion for empowering girls here in Western PA. We are deeply grateful for the generous time and heart that volunteers give to creating a season that celebrates girls’ hard work and their bright futures.
