Fulton family, we need you.
412 Justice is hosting a virtual town hall listening session regarding Fulton being closed on March 26, and this may be one of our last real chances to be heard before decisions are made about school closures. The board has reopened the plan and in spite of it being voted no on, they are voting on it with no proposed changes (as of now) by the end of the school year.
Once again, we find ourselves on the defensive starting from behind.
We’ll be talking about this at tonight’s PTA meeting, so if you’re able to come, please do. This is an important moment for our school community.
For over a year, many of us have asked the district to hold a true town hall at Fulton about the very real impact this closure would have on our students, our community, and the Highland Park neighborhood. That never happened. Instead, closure hearings were scheduled in the dead of summer, not at our beloved school, and at times that made it difficult for families to attend and speak out.
This is different.
This session is being organized by community advocacy group 412 Justice and Education Rights Network in partnership with the Advancement Project. It’s designed to center our voices—families, students, and the community—and make sure decision-makers hear directly from us. All of us.
Elected officials and media are being invited. That means turnout matters.
We need as many Fulton families and supporters as possible to show up.
