Kate Fletcher thank you for all you do for these girls
Today begins Women’s History Month and we have the perfect way to kick off by celebrating Kate Fletcher! After becoming a widow in 2002, Kate uprooted her life in Pittsburgh, PA and moved to Nairobi where she immersed herself into a full time volunteer role working with children who were orphaned due to the HIV/AIDS epidemic.
Kate, who had spent part of her own childhood in an orphanage, knew firsthand the devastating impact of poverty and illness on children—and the challenges of providing orphaned children with a safe, loving, and family-like home. She saw the increased risks facing girls- like sexual violence, trafficking, child marriage- and the limited services to protect and support them.
With funding from friends in Pittsburgh, Kate decided to dedicate her life to caring for these orphaned and vulnerable girls by founding Hekima Place in 2005.
What started as a rented home for only 10 girls has since grown into a beautiful organization that has supported over 90 girls on our very own campus.
