Roos and Bawks Acres

Roos and Bawks Acres My name is Kristan and I've been working with chickens and their owners since 2017. References are available upon request. I work on a donation basis.

I am self taught through books, Penn State Extension, online tutorials, veterinarian techs, and other experienced chicken keepers. I have a passion to educate others about how incredible these animals are to have in your own backyard. I also foster to adopt hens and roosters (and occasionally other types of birds). Your donation helps me continue to provide education and resources for foster birds. Donations can be made through PayPal - [email protected] - Thank you!!

It doesn’t have to be freezing outside for your chickens to get frostbite. Moisture and wind chill will do it to them in above freezing temperatures

Frostbite is a real concern with backyard chickens, so what's the best way to prevent it? A well-ventilated, dry coop.

Pennsylvania is mentioned in this article from Premier 1 Supplies. It is time to start winterizing our flock and their living environment. As mentioned in this article, we do not put up the white or clear greenhouse plastic. The noise was too much and the light was too much. The wind hitting the plastic made loud rattling noises versus a UV cloth where the wind can pe*****te better. when your Chickens experience Winter for the first time, please remember that everything is new to them. They are not going to run out into the snow like you might see online! They are curious by nature and will be cautious to protect themselves
