We have an amazing update!

We really thought Blossom's kittens didn't make it. When she was first trapped, we could tell that she was nursing at one point but she did not appear to be actively nursing. Almost 3 days later, a nearby colony caretaker called and said that a little kitten appeared.

A volunteer left work and went and scooped them up - 3 kittens in all. They certainly looked like Blossom, but were they hers?

Once the kittens were reunited with her she immediately began grooming them and they began to nurse. 🩷 They were indeed hers.

We are so thankful they were able to make it almost 3 days without her, which is truly miraculous!

The kittens are still pretty small but soon enough they will be eating wet food. We could really use kitten wet food, kitten dry food and adult dry and wet food if anyone would like to donate from our wish list. ❤️

A few months ago, this little kitten was born outside. Her world revolved around survival. She had never known a warm bed, the touch of a human hand or the joy of chasing toys.

Everything changed when she was trapped and brought to safety. Slowly, she discovered that people could be kind. Her foster gave her the name Hector. She learned about treats, blankets, cat trees, and all the little comforts of indoor life. Most importantly, she learned what it felt like to be loved.
Today Hector was adopted.

Goodbye, sweet girl. Thank you for letting us be one chapter in your story. Our hearts are full knowing that your happily-ever-after has finally begun. ♥️

Please share ❤️

Zeus is seriously the best cat - we cannot understand how he has not found his forever home yet! He is a gentle soul and a true gem who very much deserves a home to call his own.

🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾

Zeus is a sweet and easygoing cat. He absolutely loves to cuddle with his favorite person and makes a wonderful companion! Having a bad day? He will instantly make you feel better.

We don't know much about his life before he came to our rescue, he was a found as a stray. We are very glad he is off the street and so is he! He's grateful to be living the good life now life - playing with toys, lounging in the sunshine, and yummy food of course!

Zeus gets along with very well with other cats. He has not been around dogs yet. He is neutered, up to date on vaccines and is microchipped. He is FIV positive, which basically means his immune system is just a little weaker than the average cat.

The orange cat with mange has been trapped!

This poor guy is actually known to us, his name is Bones. A few summers ago he came to our rescue in very bad condition, extremely thin, dehydrated, dull coat and with an upper respiratory infection.

We got him back to health and released him back to his colony but here he is again on the struggle bus, this time with mange.

Interestingly, he showed up at the house of one of our fosters a little bit away from his colony, thankfully she was able to trap him. It's almost like he knew where to go for help. ❤

Bones will be hanging out with us for a little bit while he undergoes treatment.
Thanks to Courtney for trapping him!

If anyone wants to contribute to his medical care, here are some ways to donate. 🙏

Welcome to rescue, Blossom! 🌸

On Wednesday we were notified about a colony cat in Homestead with mange. A local caretaker is trying to trap him but instead got this very sweet, very skinny little lady.

The moment the trap shut she probably thought her life was over but in reality, it changed for the better! 🥰

Blossom is extremely thin and skeletal and she is also very young. We don't know her story or why she's on the streets or what happened to her but she was at one point nursing. We don't think she has kittens any longer, there are ways to tell. It wouldn't surprise us that her thin little body wasn't able to keep up with the milk demand. 💔

Now is her time to heal and she is already being nursed back to health by her foster. She demonstrated signs of refeeding syndrome so she's getting small meals throughout the day. She is a very sweet and friendly girl!

All of her suffering could have been prevented if she had been spayed before being tossed outside. Please spay and neuter! Blossom has had a rough start in life, but we'll make sure she has it easy from here on out. 🩷

Marilyn is having a bit of a tough time recovering after spending two hours under anesthesia for extensive dental work. It's common for senior cats to take longer to bounce back after surgery, especially when multiple teeth are extracted.

Right now, she's getting plenty of supportive care, including fluids, antibiotics, and medication to help with nausea while her body recovers. We're keeping a close eye on her and giving her lots of love. Picture is of Marilyn getting fluids.

Yesterday I was talking with someone about Marilyn and the cost of her dental. They asked why we didn't simply euthanize her instead. It made me realize that this is probably a good opportunity to explain how we think about medical expenses in rescue.

There are generally two categories of vet costs in rescue: routine medical care and emergency/specialty medical care.

We will never euthanize a cat because of the cost of routine medical care. To us, things like spay/neuter surgeries, wellness visits, treatment for infections, allergies, wounds, and dental care are simply part of the responsibility of rescuing animals. These are expected expenses and every cat in our care deserves them. There is no cap on how much we spend per cat on routine care.

Emergency and specialty care is a different category. This includes situations such as being hit by a car, severe neurological conditions, heart disease requiring advanced surgery, and cancer requiring specialized care. These cases often involve difficult decisions because the costs can be very high and the prognosis is not always good. As a general rule, we have found when emergency medical costs exceed $4,000, the cat is usually dealing with a serious medical condition. At that point, we have to evaluate whether we can afford it. Rescue work is full of difficult decisions, and every organization draws the line in a different place. This is where we draw ours.

For Marilyn, the decision was easy. She had dental disease that could be treated. It is regular medical care. Thanks to all of you who donated so she got the care she needed!! We are incredibly grateful for your support. ❤️

Five of our kittens were fixed and vetted yesterday at Animal Friends. We thought we had three girls and two boys, but it turns out we had four girls and one boy!

Kittens are so extremely resilient. Just hours after being fixed Paris (girl), Cassian (girl) and Hector (girl 😂), are playing just like it was just a routine day!

We absolutely love this crew - they are so full of life and enthusiasm and it makes our hearts happy. 🩷 Paris and Cassian are still looking for their forever home. Please share to help them find it!

📸 We debated whether to share this photo, but ultimately decided to because it's real. Rescue work isn't always glamorous or filled with happy moments. Sometimes it's messy, painful, and difficult. Today is one of those days for Marilyn.

We knew we were in for quite a story when the vet called. She told us that "Marilyn gave me a run for my money, her mouth was one of the worst mouths I had ever seen and I do dentals every week". 😬😬

Here are two of the major issues she found:
1) Marilyn's canine teeth were loose and badly infected. The infection had spread into her jawbone and started to turn her bone brown. (Definitely a first for us!!!!) 🟤

2)We learned a new word today: ankylosis.
Normally, a tooth root and the jawbone are separate structures. With ankylosis, the tooth root becomes fused directly to the jawbone, almost as if they have been glued together. This often occurs when a tooth has been diseased for a long time, usually due to tooth resorption—a condition in which the body gradually breaks down parts of the tooth.🦷

When this happens, extractions become much more complicated because the tooth is literally attached to the bone. Important note- ankylosis can only be seen with dental xrays. Its extremely important your vet office has them if you use them for dentals.

After spending nearly two hours working on just one side of Marilyn's mouth (!!!) the vet decided it would be safer to wake her up and allow her to recover rather than keep her under anesthesia any longer. Marilyn will need to return at a later day to have the other side of her mouth addressed.

Poor Marilyn has been carrying around a tremendous amount of pain for a very long time, but this is an important first step toward helping her finally feel better!!! We have a large bill to pay so if you are able to help us out, thank you!!

We've had Gus in our rescue for over a year, and despite everything he has going for him, he still hasn't found his home. To be completely accurate, he hasn't received a single adoption application or even an email. Not one. 😭 It has us confused. Are we doing something wrong?

Gus is adorable, young, curious, and full of personality. He gets along well with other cats, loves exploring his surroundings, and has just the right amount of quirky charm. He should be the kind of cat people are lining up to adopt.

So we're turning to you for help.

Is there something missing from his adoption profile? Could his photos be better? Is there something about the way we're presenting him that isn't helping him stand out?

We would appreciate your feedback. Take a look at Gus's pictures and description and let us know what you think. Sometimes a fresh perspective can make all the difference, and we want to do everything we can to help this wonderful boy find his home.
