November is National Family Caregivers Month, and the Ryan Shazier Fund is inviting caregivers in the SCI community to join us for Caregivers Appreciation Night! For someone injured at age 25, estimated lifetime costs can range from approximately $2.1 million to $6.3 million, depending on the severity of the injury. And that doesn't include lost wages or productivity.

Behind every number we share are real people and families navigating expenses that can continue for a lifetime. As Spinal Cord Injury Awareness Month comes to a close, the need for awareness, resources, and support doesn't end here. Neither does our work.

🫎❤️ A Special Night at the Lodge! ❤️🫎

We were honored to welcome Ryan and Thomas to our Lodge meeting!

A huge thank-you to both of them for taking the time to come in, speak with our members, and share more about the incredible work being done through the Ryan Shazier Fund.

After Ryan Shazier suffered a life-changing spinal cord injury while playing for the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2017, his own recovery journey inspired a new mission: helping others facing spinal cord injuries get the support and resources they need. Today, the Fund assists individuals with spinal cord injuries and their caregivers with resources, rehabilitation support and funding to help them live independent and meaningful lives.

One of its programs, Golden Window, helps address unmet needs during spinal cord injury recovery, including additional rehabilitation, home and vehicle modifications, adaptive equipment, caregiving support and more. The program currently serves individuals in Ohio, Pennsylvania and West Virginia.

Our Lodge was incredibly proud to make a donation to the Ryan Shazier Fund and support the difference they are making for individuals and families. ❤️

And if that wasn’t enough to make it a great night… we gained TWO new Moose members! 🎉🫎

For someone living with a spinal cord injury, driving can mean much more than getting from point A to point B.

People with SCI who drive are nearly twice as likely to be employed, but getting back on the road can require costly vehicle modifications and adaptive equipment. Through our Golden Window Program, we’ve provided stipends for 38 vehicle purchases and adaptations, helping remove a barrier to greater independence. 💚
