Several months ago, The Farina Foundation received a message after someone heard about our work on WQED. They shared the story of Billy ā a man recently released after 17 years at Graterford Prison, where he earned his GED and discovered a passion for playing the tenor saxophone.
When he returned home, the saxophone had to stay behind.
But the passion didnāt.
Thanks to the incredible support of Brighton Music Center, Billy was recently gifted a tenor saxophone so he could continue his musical journey.
When he received it at the East End Cooperative Ministry Food Pantry, āhis eyes lit up.ā During lunch break, he immediately took it out and started playing.
That moment is exactly why we do this. š·ā¤ļø
Music has the power to restore hope, create connection, and remind people that their story is still being written.
