Your ticket purchase helps to fund our Troop operations for the year including Summer Camp, Weekend Campouts, and our weekly Troop Activities.

Tonight, Troop 457 is proud to welcome Jack Peterson as our 104th Eagle Scout in more than 85 years of Scouting in Zelienople. Jack began his Scouting journey as a Cub Scout, earning the Arrow of Light before crossing over to Troop 457 in June 2020. His introduction to the troop came during the early months of the COVID pandemic, when meetings were still virtual and even getting to know his fellow Scouts presented an unusual challenge. From those beginnings, Jack went on to serve in numerous leadership roles, including Senior Patrol Leader, Patrol Leader, Troop Guide, Den Chief, Outdoor Ethics Guide, and Scribe.

Jack has always been an outdoorsman, a teacher, and someone willing to take on a challenge. He completed the Mile Swim, earned Snorkeling BSA, served as our Sea Base crew leader, and both attended and staffed National Youth Leadership Training. Around the troop, he is also our resident knot master and the Scout you are more likely to find sleeping beneath a tarp than inside a tent. One of our favorite Jack moments came while sled packing, when he split a log, built a fire inside it, pulled a small cast iron skillet out of his gear, and cooked himself a steak. In true Jack fashion, he shared a taste with everyone... except his dad.

What stands out most, though, is the way Jack leads. He is thoughtful, adventurous, patient with younger Scouts, and always willing to share what he knows. He does not simply solve problems. He helps others understand why a solution works and gives them the confidence to do it themselves. For his Eagle project, Jack brought those same qualities to the Zelienople Community Park, helping create an arboretum by identifying indigenous trees and installing plaques so others can learn from them for years to come. Jack embodies what an Eagle Scout should be, and we could not be prouder to welcome him to the soar. Congratulations, Jack!

THAT’S A WRAP! Troop 457 has wrapped up a successful week at Seven Ranges Scout Reservation for summer camp! A HUGE THANK YOU to the whole staff for hosting us and putting on a great week

Our Scouts have lots of chances to see wildlife here at camp (in fact, seeing that wildlife helps Scouts to earn their camp honors recognition). While some of that wildlife are not always welcome (looking at you 🦝), one of our favorite animals to see is Bingo, Ranger Steve’s dog. He graced us with his presence this morning at flag raising.

Scout camp isn’t just about our Scouts learning new skills for rank advancement and merit badges. Our adult leaders had a chance to complete some training at camp this week too! Congratulations to Mr. Burr, Mr. Roy, and Mr. Schneider on completing the Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills course and Mr. Burr and Mr. Fiore for renewing their First Aid, AED, and CPR certifications!

GOOD MORNING from Camp Algonkin! It’s our last full day at camp today and while we’re all getting tired, there is still lots of fun to come. Yesterday’s activities featured the Mile Swim where Ian and Solomon for finished first and second respectively of over 20 participants. CONGRATULATIONS SCOUTS!

We capped off the day with a fantastic dinner at our campsite with guests from the Camp Staff and a very important training program - Spoon Safety where Scouts learned proper techniques for handling a spoon to eat ice cream.

Wednesday was OA Day here at on the reservation. OA is the Order of the Arrow, Scouting’s “National Honors Society”. To become a member of the OA, Scouts must hold at least the First Class Rank, have camped at least 14 nights in the prior 2 years (only 5 of which can be a long term campout) and be elected by their peers. Last night, four of our OA members had the honor of calling out Ian M. andScoutmaster Maloney as new OA Members. Congratulations Scouts and Scouters!
