Karen, a Cum Laude graduate of Cal State East Bay with a double major in Fine Studio Arts & Recreation, has spent nearly two decades shaping the local art community. From teaching children and adults across Antioch, Pittsburg, Brentwood, and Walnut Creek to managing the PACO Gallery for a decade, she has shared her love of creativity at every turn.

Solo Flight is not just a showcase of her talent, but a reflection of her lifelong passion:
“I just love making beautiful things and sharing the joy of creating them with others.”

Old Town Art Center and Railroad Book Depot had the honor of welcoming Pittsburg’s Sister City student delegation from Shimonoseki, Japan.

The students filled the day with creativity, laughter, and cultural exchange as we dove into arts and built new friendships.

Though their visit is coming to an end, the memories we’ve made together will last, and we look forward to seeing them again in the near future.

Oldies, but Goodies: A Senior Point of View
An Art Exhibition by Gloria Cannon & Joel Summerhill

Join us for a special art reception celebrating the creative journey of two seasoned artists: Gloria Cannon and Joel Summerhill. Their exhibit, Oldies, but Goodies: A Senior Point of View, explores the beauty of art through the lens of experience, passion, and the joy of continuous learning.

Art Reception Details:
Date: June 13, 2025
Time: 6 - 8 pm
Location: 65 Civic Ave. Pittsburg

Meet the Artists:
Gloria Cannon (Oil Painter):
Gloria began her artistic journey after retiring in 2007. A true believer in lifelong learning, she continues to explore new techniques in oil painting. While her landscapes capture the vastness of nature, her heart belongs to portraiture, where she aims to capture the essence of her subjects. Every brushstroke is a lesson, and every painting is a conversation.

Joel Summerhill (Watercolor Artist):
After retiring as Pittsburg’s Park Planner, Joel embraced watercolor painting as a new way to express himself. His work primarily consists of landscapes and still lifes, inspired by his observations of the natural world. But Joel’s art isn’t just about beauty—it’s also about fun! Some of his works are whimsical, playful creations, designed simply to bring a smile to your face.

Both artists show us that it’s never too late to discover new horizons, whether in art or in life. Their vibrant pieces reflect a deep connection to the world around them and remind us that creativity knows no age.

Come for the art, stay for the conversation, and leave inspired. We can’t wait to share this incredible exhibit with you!
