LCVI clients enjoyed a fun and educational Excursion to Ardenwood Historic Farm last week. They learned to process raw wool into hand-made felt cloth and got a chance to tour the historic Patterson House full of nineteenth century workmanship and antiques. LCVI especially appreciates all the Lions Club volunteers who made it fun and safe, and the Moraga Lions Club for an awesome lunch! LCVI supports widespread awareness of “Blind Etiquette”, the common courtesies we can all show when meeting a person who is visually impaired. LCVI loves all assistive technology that help people with visual impairments – from simple “gadgets” like talking watches to more high tech devices like smartphones and smart glasses. LCVI clients recently were excited to learn about the new Meta Ray-Ban Smart Glasses and test out two demonstration pairs for themselves. LCVI hosts a free monthly Blind and Low Vision Discussion Group for clients to meet virtually and in-person for open, frank discussion on issues related to visual impairments. LCVI clients and volunteers enjoyed a warm sunny day, cool breezes, fresh air, and the smells and sounds of a redwood forest during their recent excursion to Reinhardt Redwoods Regional Park in the Oakland Hills. Trip highlights included a park naturalist-led nature hike, a tasty brown-bag lunch and an open-air recital with singing and poetry. LCVI appreciates former U.S. President Jimmy Carter and this week reviewed his extraordinary life for the Presidents Day holiday. LCVI clients were inspired by the humanitarian works of President Carter, who passed away last December at the age of 100 and was a member of Lions Club International and dedicated supporter of Habitat for Humanity.
