Pittsburg USD 250 Foundation We financially support educational opportunities for students through scholarships, teacher grants, and special projects.

The USD 250 Foundation is a privately funded organization that helps develop top notch facilities for the district, promotes innovative approaches to teaching at all levels and provides scholarships for post graduate education for Pittsburg High School seniors. Since 2007 over $157,000 have been awarded in teacher grants to fund educational projects. Some examples include: Crash Car physics, PHS c

limbing wall, field trips for ESOL students, Percussion Instruments, Ultimate Scooters for PE, Multigenerational Chorus and camera equipment for the PHS Yearbook staff. Awarding student scholarships for post secondary education has long been a part of PHS history, dating back to the 1960s Alumni Association scholarships. The USD 250 Foundation has expanded the giving process and since 2000 has awarded over $446,000 in scholarships to graduating seniors. We welcome you to support Pittsburg Community Schools through your gifts! Gifts to the foundation may be given in various forms of cash, properties, securities, or other tangible items. Proceeds from life insurance policies may also be directed toward the fund. Contributions are tax-deductible as a 501 (c)(3) gift. Gifts are normally undesignated or the donor may specify the projects or use for which the gift is intended. Gifts may be designated for use of the principal or in the case of an endowment, limited to the use of earnings only. Become a part of tomorrow's future, today. Mason Deringer, Liam Diamond, Christian Patrick are the recipients of this year’s Class of 1974 Scholarship, created by class members to recognize outstanding seniors for their academics, involvement in school activities, and community services.

Mason plans to attend Pittsburg State and major in Communication, while Liam plans to attend KU to major in a STEM related field. Christian will attend Pitt State to major in Business or Athletic Training.

Jocelyn Ouellette is the recipient of this year’s Susan Laushman Vocal Music Scholarship — a scholarship created several years ago by Mrs. Laushman’s Multigenerational Chorus in recognition of her impact on students and the community.

Jocelyn, who had a nearly perfect GPA while being active in all performing arts activities — band, theater, and choir, including Multigenerational Chorus — also earned the KMEA All-State Choir 4-Year medal.

She will major in polymer chemistry at Pitt State and continue to be active in music. Congratulations, Jocelyn!

At its 50th class reunion, members of the Class of 1968 created a scholarship to give back to the district that gave them a great education. This year's recipients:

Stephanie Bonilla, who enjoyed community service and discovered a passion for health classes, plans to explore options in healthcare, starting at Labette Community College before transferring to a university.

Lena Hopper, who is fascinated by human anatomy, healthcare, and 3D art, plans to explore a few career paths her first year at Pittsburg State before choosing a field that will align with her creativity and skills.

As Ron's Supermarket marks 50 years in business, the Rhodes family — proud Dragons — continues to invest in the future of our community by supporting the Ron’s Supermarket Scholarship. This year’s recipient: Ania Brown.

Ania has been a dedicated student and volunteer with a passion for serving others. This fall, she will attend Pittsburg State University, pursuing a bachelor’s degree in information systems and a master’s in administration, with the goal of becoming a hospital manager or administrator.

Congratulations to Anna Ozbun, the recipient of this year’s Patrick Family Fine Arts Scholarship!

Presented by their father, it was established in memory of Michael Patrick and in honor of Kristina Patrick Meier, siblings who both performed in numerous PHS theatrical productions.

Like the Patricks, Anna has been active in PHS Performing Arts both on and off the stage. She plans to attend Kansas State University to pursue a career in technical theater with a speciality in stage management and a minor in creative writing. Her dream? To write a Broadway play.

Congratulations to Makayla Addison-Boyd, the recipient of the Class of 1967 Scholarship!

Makayla will attend Pittsburg State University this fall to major in Social Work or Psychology. Her goal? A career that will allow her to support people and communities in meaningful ways, inspired by her time spent as a member of Key Club and a volunteer with Fostering Connections and The Salvation Army.
