Many individuals with mental health disorders experience challenges in the areas of affordable housing, healthy food accessibility, and access to social opportunity. The Farm at Penny Lane seeks to become a community model that addresses these issues in a creative and collaborative way by first providing clients with a solid foundation through which the recovery process can begin. Through a partne
rship with Chatham Habitat for Humanity, the Farm at Penny Lane has adopted the idea that housing is healthcare. By providing our most disfranchised community members with a tiny home, the Tiny House Community Collaborative offers an affordable solution for homeownership, which creates the stability required for recovery. In addition to the Farm at Penny Lane and Chatham Habitat, the Tiny Home Community Collaborative includes Cardinal Innovations, Triangle Community Foundation, XDS, inc, BOLD Construction, Grid Free NC, Builders First Source, the Chatham County Agricultural Fair, and UNC CECMH. This is Phase I of this project, so we’re just getting started. This tiny home is a demo that will help the Farm at Penny Lane make this dream a reality.
