Chatham NC First Responder Memorial The purpose of the Chatham County 9-11 First Responder Memorial Foundation is to develop and maintain a memorial to honor all first responders.

The Chatham County 911 First Responders plans to procure property in Chatham County and develop that land for a Memorial Park, constructing and maintaining the Memorial, and providing opportunities to increase knowledge and awareness of the sacrifices and dedication of these brave people. The organization plans to receive contributions to offset the costs of property acquisition and preparation, d

esign, construction and maintenance of the Memorial and property. Fundraising events will be scheduled to obtain sufficient funds to meet these costs, and ongoing costs of the Memorial and improvements as warranted. Events will be planned in accordance with the mission and purpose of the organization and consistent with the By Laws of the organization. Records will be kept of all revenue received and expenses incurred for each event. Contributors will be mailed letters of acknowledgement and kept informed of the status of the memorial.

This Memorial Day Weekend ,we pause to honor and remember the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country and our freedom.

We are truly blessed to live in a nation protected by those who have served and continue to serve with courage, dedication, and selflessness.

Their sacrifices allow us to enjoy the freedoms we often take for granted each and every day.

As we gather with family and friends this weekend, let us never forget the true meaning of Memorial Day.

Take a moment to remember our fallen heroes, pray for their families, and thank those who continue to wear the uniform and protect our communities and nation.

From all of us at the Goldston Fire Department, we thank every service member, veteran, and military family for your sacrifice and commitment.

đźš’ Honoring a Legacy of Service đźš’

We also officially retired Number 644, Mark Scott — a name that means so much to the Bennett and Bonlee Fire Departments.

Mark devoted 50 years of his life to the fire service, always answering the call to protect and serve others. He served as Chief of Bonlee Fire from 1976–1983 and was honored as Firefighter of the Year in 1975 and again in 1983 — a true testament to his dedication and leadership.

Mark’s wife, Janet, shared that he loved helping others and supporting his fellow firefighters. He was a loving, giving man who lived to serve. Outside the firehouse, Mark found peace and joy fishing and kayaking with his family, living a life full of purpose both on and off duty.

Mark’s legacy of integrity, hard work, and kindness will forever live on in the countless lives he touched and the department he helped shape.

Thank you, Mark, for a lifetime of service.
You will never be forgotten. ❤️🚒

John Rufus "Johnny" Clark Obituary

John Rufus “Johnny” Clark, age 82, of Goldston, passed away on Thursday, January 8, 2026.

Johnny was a native of Chatham County, North Carolina, born to the late Willard Jerome Clark and Mary Underwood Clark. In addition to his parents, his beloved daughter, Angie Clark, and his sister, Judy Emerson, preceded him in death. Born with a servant’s heart, Johnny dedicated his life to serving others. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy and devoted an extraordinary 61 years as a volunteer firefighter with the Goldston Fire Department, faithfully protecting the community he loved.

🔥 Chili Cook-Off for a Cause! 🔥

Join us this Saturday at the Goldston Fire Department for a Firefighter Chili Cook-Off supporting our local Boy Scouts!

Firefighters from Goldston, Bonlee, and Bennett will go head-to-head to see who has the best chili and YOU get to help decide by showing your support!

Time: 11:00 AM – 1:30 PM

There will be a Silent Auction with great items to bid on also.

This is a fun way to support our youth, enjoy good food, and spend time with your community.

Bring your family, invite your friends, and help us make this a great event!

All proceeds benefit our local Boy Scouts.

We hope to see you there!
