Thank you to everyone who came out for the Bold Goal Community Breakfast this morning.

We asked attendees to dig into the data at their tables and share what they’re experiencing in their own organizations and communities, and what would help this system work better for Chatham neighbors. The conversations were honest, and you could feel the collaborative energy in the room!

We’ll share more photos and information from the event soon. Thank you, again, to everyone who contributed to the event this morning.

We're sad to share that Daisy Butzer, our Impact Manager, will be leaving United Way on June 30.

Daisy joined UWCC in May 2024 and brought focus, acuity and a real gift for building lasting relationships with partners - helping launch the Chatham Success Network and navigate its pilot year, leading work with the Chatham Housing Collective that brought Chatham's unique rural landscape and challenges into focus across the Triangle region and beyond, and representing our community at the One Young World Summit in Germany.

We are grateful for everything she brought to this work and wish her every good thing in what comes next.

On May 19, United Way of Chatham County gathered with volunteers, partners and community members at our annual Volunteer and Partner Appreciation Event to celebrate the people and organizations who make this work possible – including four nominees for the 2025 Spirit of North Carolina Awards, presented by United Way of North Carolina. Wednesday, May 13th, United Way of Chatham County joined fellow Local United Way members, United Way of North Carolina and its board members in Raleigh for the annual Jones Street Advocacy Day.

Because United Ways collaborate with so many community members, agencies and organizations, we have a pulse on the community that we can relay to lawmakers so they can take action and make changes that help communities thrive.

With 50+ meetings taking place throughout the day, the group divided and conquered to encourage the NC budget to be passed with important priorities such as raises for teachers and state employees, increases in childcare subsidies, and support for the Child and Dependent Care Tax Credit. The group also helped educate legislators about local and regional issues and promote NC 211 resources across North Carolina.

UWCC Executive Director Carlos Lima also met with Senator Natalie Murdock and spoke with her about the work United Way is leading in Chatham, and the challenges residents are facing surrounding the rapid development and increasing cost of living.

"Days like this matter because we're not just showing up as United Way, we're bringing the voices of Chatham residents into rooms where decisions get made," said Carlos.

It was a fun and productive day, including special shoutouts to United Way during both the House and Senate sessions. Our goal - collectively as United Ways across NC - is to keep showing up for our communities, and Wednesday we did just that.

Congratulations, Suzannah! 💕 We have the privilege of working with Suzannah every week - she is an integral part of the Chatham Success Network and Chatham Housing Collective, participating in the weekly calls for each. She leaves no stone unturned finding resources and support for the children and families throughout Chatham County Schools. Way to go, Suzannah, and the entire McKinney-Vento team!

Impact Manager Daisy Butzer represented United Way of Chatham County at the United Way Southeast Regional Conference (SERC) in Charleston, South Carolina mid-April, and brought a little Chatham inspiration with her.

Daisy co-presented with Helen Borges, Research Manager at United Way Worldwide's Research & Data Insights team, on building and using data tools within the United Way network. Together, they highlighted two platforms side by side: UWCC's own Chatham Housing Collective Community Dashboard and United Way Worldwide's global United by Data platform.

The session clearly struck a chord. One attendee told Daisy she was heading home to build a dashboard for her own United Way, using the process Daisy had shared.

"I felt so humbled that Chatham could be an inspiration to communities several states away," Daisy said.

We're proud of Daisy for representing our work so well and grateful to United Way of North Carolina, Trident United Way, and the full SERC team for creating spaces where local innovations can travel.
