Ron Crook, a quilt connoisseur who has hosted and attended many quilt shows over his more than half-century of managing county fairs in Coos and Curry, scrutinized the quilt being produced and raffled by the Pistol River Friendship Club.

He smiles in approval and plans to buy a ticket.

Upcoming Event in Gold Beach - Tsunami Roadshow

Curry County Tsunami Roadshow happening on Tuesday, April 7, 2026 from 5:30 - 7:30 pm in Gold Beach at the Showcase Building at the Curry County Fairgrounds (aka Event Center on the Beach).

This community educational event is presented by the Oregon Department of Geology and Mineral Industries (DOGAMI), the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), and the Oregon Office of Emergency Management (OEM). Experts from these and other organizations are coming to our community with life-saving information on alerts, watches & warnings, evacuation routes, and local assembly areas: what they are, where they are, and what you’ll find there.

Attendees are asked to download the FREE NVS Tsunami App (QR code on the flyer).

Phone Scam Alert – Spoofed Call Using Curry Medical Center’s Number

We want to let the community know that someone reported receiving a call that appeared to come from Curry Medical Center (541.412.2000). In the call, the caller tried to sell a medical device.
This was a spoofed call, meaning the caller ID was intentionally faked to look like it came from us.

A quick reminder that CHN, Curry General Hospital, and all of our clinics—including Curry Medical Center—do not call people to sell products, equipment, or medical devices.

The issue has been reported to the FCC and to our telecom vendor for review.

If you receive a call that seems unusual, the safest approach is to avoid engaging, avoid giving any personal information, and avoid answering questions that could be recorded for misuse.
