Learning Day Camp

Learning Day Camp Learning Day Camp is a place where children can foster a love of learning in an enriching, stress-free, natural environment.

Located at the Appalachian South Folk Life Center, a facility enriched with the best features of the great state of West Virginia, the children engage into fitness activities, reading, science, math, field trips, games, art, and music. Our staff is composed of mostly social workers and education professionals. The director and assistant director are both National Board Certified teachers that hav

e worked in the field for 20 plus years as k-6 educators. We provide a variety of healthy meals and snacks for the campers each day, as we feel that it is imperative to offer nourishment and support healthy living standards. We have also been in operation in the community for more than 20 years and have relied on various grants and donations for funding each year.

WV people! Our girl Jessie Ofsa Woolwine has helped found an incredible organization that has taken on a huge mission to help save the lives of children facing pediatric cancer in our entire region. You all know the extremely difficult journey that her family has been on battling cancer with their precious daughter Charlotte. Despite receiving a terrifying diagnosis, Charlotte is a walking miracle today because Jessie and Kelly were able access world class facilities and medical teams at a hospital far away from their home. This means to save their child’s life, this family had to leave their home, their community, and their lives to essentially move to another state where they knew no one in order to access the care needed to save Charlotte. Even today, in order to undergo her routine checkups to monitor her remission, they have to travel far away to access a team/facility qualified to provide the level of care needed. This level of travel isn’t available to many many families who are fighting similar battles for their children.
Receiving a terrifying diagnosis for your child is devastating; but on top of that having to uproot your life and move away in order to treat them isn’t an option that all families can access.
This is where the work of Jessie and Kelly’s LifeRing Foundation comes in!
They are working around the clock to build and staff a world class pediatric cancer treatment center in our region so that families in our community can focus on healing their sweet babies without having to move away- or worse, families that don’t have the option of moving away can still easily access medical care to help save their children’s lives!
AND YOU CAN HELP!
Currently the LifeRing foundation is in a contest to be part of a publication that can help spread the news of their cause and help connect them to future funders, and ALL YOU HAVE TO DO to help them is vote for them once a day until Dec 17.
Thank you for helping a wonderful family in their very special work!
