Texas Parks and Wildlife, Texas A&M Forest Service, and KERR Together partners are working on a tree replanting project. They will be collecting live tree stakes from around the Hill Country and replanting them in riparian areas along City of Kerrville Parks. Help from dedicated volunteers is needed on February 14th and 21st to collect and plant the live stakes.

This photo was recently submitted by one of our Team Members, Hunter Martin. This is the same memorial that Kim Hinnant has been painting. Months have passed and ice has formed a glistening landscape dusted with snow. As the days and nights go by, We Remember. We remain Resilient, full of Hope, Standing Together in Strength, Moving Forward with Faith🌻

Let me introduce you to another one of our Board Advisors Shalome Dow and tell you a little bit about how we met and who she is.

The day I met Shay was July 7 2025. I was assigned to a K-9 team by Harry Holt who was leading civilian flood response teams out of the Center Point Volunteer Fire Department. Shay is an owner of Ella S.A. Contracting, LP and met us with her Husband Ward and crew to excavate a specified location. Together we quickly realized we needed more equipment. A bond was formed that day in the mud as we held our tears for a later date and wiped sweat from our faces. That was the first of many “Hey I know A guy’s” as I reached out to a friend Lee Ballenger who responded with more equipment to assist. We were there to support one another and our community any way we could.

How would I describe Shay? Shay is women of Grit, Grace & Faith. She always asks “What do you need?” The mission carried forward as you see the photo of her on her four wheeler July 10th mucking out homes with the crew. She along with other equipment operators patiently, and with a few good spirited laughs, gave me a crash course in equipment. We reminded each other to get medical treatments, drink water, and sleep if needed. We prayed together and for each other. There were many sleepless nights and early mornings fueled by caffeine. She was an integral part of equipment coordination, lodging accommodations and supply procurement during this disaster across multiple counties in conjunction with organizations and fire departments. Over the holiday’s she helped us acquire a tree wrapper to help deliver all of the donated Christmas trees from Sisterdale Volunteer Fire Department to flood affected families and Blue Santa. Yes she is still at it!

Shay does all this while looking glamorous. Did I mention she is also a Sales Director for MARY KAY, the owner of Ella SAR, and created the Boerne Ladies Connect which is the largest women’s facebook group in Boerne? Oh Yes! This woman radiates from the inside out with a heart of pure gold.

We at HCAR are truly blessed to have her as part of our team! Thank you Shay for all that you continue to do for our community 🌻

Watch as artist Kim Hinnant brings a blank canvas to life with each stroke of her brush. She is painting a photo that spoke to her heart from our 4th of July Remembrance Collection. This piece will be a part of a gallery collection inspiring healing. The completed artwork will be released soon. The gallery planning includes both affected families and first responders. If you are an artist and would like to collaborate on this collection please contact me at (210) 527-7922 🌻

Groundhog Day, Texas Edition!

While Punxsutawney Phil is out there squinting at shadows and flipping coins…
Here in Texas, we rely on Bee Cave Bob The Armadillo , a highly-qualified Armadillo with zero fear of weather and even less regard for winter.

If Bob sees his shadow → 6 more weeks of summer
If he doesn’t → also summer
If the armadillo waddles out → expect 80° by lunch, a cold front by dinner.

Sorry Phil. We trust animals that can survive asphalt, cedar fever, and Texas drivers.

Happy Groundhog Day, y’all. Forecast: confidently incorrect but entertaining.

This canvas is in the process of coming to life in artist Kim Hinnant’s hands. She is re-creating this picture that spoke to her from our 4th of July Remembrance Collection. This particular photo brings about many feelings for me. I personally avoided memorials while working through this tragedy and it was a choice I had to make. Many SAR and First Responders may understand why. The first and only memorial I have gone to was the cross at the Center Point Volunteer Fire Department. You could say “I came to the cross.” Writing this brings tears to my eyes.

We understand that art can be both healing and triggering or a combination of both. Everyone is different and how things affects them varies. We are planning a gallery keeping that in mind with a creative and collective approach to healing. We are including families affected and first responders in the planning of this event. If you are a metal worker, potter, glass blower, painter, photographer, or other type of artist please reach out to me privately at 210-527-7922 if you are interested in joining us in this project. ❤️‍🩹

Artist Kim Hinnant reached out wanting to help our mission supporting flood relief, first responders and our Hill Country community. The photos from the July 4th Remembrance Collection touched her heart. She has chosen to paint one of the photos from the collection and allow us to auction the painting to support our nonprofit efforts. We are appreciative that the photographer has given us permission to use their photo for this painting. Recently Kim did a portrait for one of the families who lost their 8 year old daughter, Kellyanne, at Camp Mystic. Her parents began a nonprofit, kindness4kellyanne. She has expressed, she wants to do more. We are grateful for her kind spirit and support. She does so much for our community. Stay tuned in for updates on this collaboration.
