Not sure if this really works, but if you have a scared dog you might want to try it.

My rescue dog, Baxter, has been terrified of fireworks since the day I brought him home. Every Fourth of July turned into a nightmare: he'd shake under the bed, pant so hard I worried his heart would give out, and refuse to eat for days after. Last year was the worst: he broke through a window screen trying to escape the noise, resulting in a $300 vet bill, anxiety meds that made him a zombie, and me sitting on the bathroom floor with him for six hours straight while he trembled in my arms. This year, I was dreading it all over again. Then, two days ago, I saw a random tip in a pet group (I've been on there lately, ordering handmade dog beds and treats from amazing crafters). Someone posted about using tennis balls in the dryer to create white noise that masks fireworks. I thought it sounded absolutely insane, but I was desperate enough to try anything. So, tonight, before the fireworks started, I threw six tennis balls, an old sneaker, and a knotted towel into the dryer. I turned off the heat and let it run. The steady thumping sound filled the house, and I waited, holding my breath, for Baxter's usual panic to start. Nothing. The first firework went off; he lifted his head, looked around, and went back to sleep. I actually started crying. For the first time in three years, my dog is sleeping peacefully on July 4th instead of hiding and shaking. He's been passed out on the couch for two hours now, completely unbothered, while the neighborhood explodes around us. Sometimes the simplest solutions are the ones that save you. If your dog struggles tonight, try this; it might just change everything.

Meet Monday’s Dynamic Duo: Marley & Earl 💔

Sometimes life changes in an instant.

When their beloved owner passed away, Marley and Earl lost the only home they had ever known. Sadly, the family was unable to keep them, and the pair found themselves surrendered to a kill facility, confused and grieving. Thankfully, we were able to bring them to safety—but what they need most now is a family to love them again.

🐾 Marley is an 8-year-old female Catahoula Leopard mix with a gentle soul and a heart full of love.

🐾 Earl is a 2-year-old wire-haired terrier mix who brings youthful energy, fun, and endless smiles wherever he goes.

Through all the changes they’ve endured, one thing has remained constant—their bond with each other. They are best friends, playmates, and comfort for one another. Watching them play chase in the yard, fetch toys together, or curl up on the couch after a long day is a beautiful reminder of the resilience of dogs.

These two are sweet, social, and get along with everyone they meet. They love walks, enjoy playing fetch, and would be thrilled to have a fenced yard where they can spend their days chasing squirrels, watching birds, and dreaming about catching deer. At night, they’re happy to settle in on the couch near the people they love.

After losing everything once, we’d love to see them find a family willing to give them the forever home they deserve. While they can be adopted separately, our dream would be to keep this special pair together.

❤️ Earl’s adoption fee: $300
❤️ Marley’s adoption fee: $200
❤️ Adopt them together: $400

They can be transported to the East Coast, Midwest, or Pacific Northwest for the right home.

Please share their story. The more people who see Marley and Earl, the better their chances of finding the loving family they’ve been waiting for.

Apply to adopt at www.adoggie4you.org.
