History of the Haven
Haven of the Dragon was born out of a family tradition of seeking knowledge. This knowledge also extended into the world of religion. When I was younger, I was asked what difference did I want to make. I answered I wanted to be an archaeologist and share history or an architect to help build new history. Yes, I was young and did quiet understand the differences. My Great-Grandmother, Nana, decided then and there that I should start learning about different religions, the histories behind them, the cultures that developed them along with them as well as their languages. The rest of my life became very blessed as I was introduced into a greater tradition that existed beyond my small world.
As I grew older, I realized that people needed a safe place, a haven, in which they could learn about a religion that wasn’t the one they were born into. So, for many years, and still now, I simply called my group “The Haven.” However, there are so many “havens” out there that it was hard for people to locate the one that was right for them and their quest in knowledge. Since 1992, over 5,000 people have called “The Haven” their sanctuary at one point in time or another, but at paths in a forest cross and move on, so do people.
In 1994, I was ordained as a Baptist Minister but felt I had an even higher calling. The first religious path that I began officially teaching in the early 1990’s, outside of Christianity was Nature Based Paganism and Old World Religions (pre-Christianity), as that was the most frequently requested path of knowledge. I have a very close affinity for dragons, “Scalies” as I would call them as a child. The historical reverence of dragons in their quest in knowledge and wisdom is legendary in many cultures. This was the greatest treasure for many of them, even more precious to them beyond the hoards of gold that many a hero sought to steal. The number of legends in many cultures is outstanding when you begin to actually research them. They are also fierce protectors of those they love and of those in need. This also rings true for me and those who have come into the Haven. In 2002, I was asked to actually give my business a name, for tax purposes, as I began to sell items I crafted to support my ability to host events and teach people. Hence, Haven of the Dragon was legally born in the United States. We do frequently refer to it as just “The Haven” as we provide a safe haven for those looking to learn.
On our page you will find a wide variety of posts. We aim to be educational, inspirational, and entertaining. Will you personally agree with everything here? Most likely not, but that is okay. We are not all the same, we weren’t meant to be. The dragon in me loves music. It is the rhythm of the soul and the universe. It harmonizes through all religions and cultures, hence you will find a great amount of it on the page. Feel free to share music that moves and inspires you (no profanity or graphic lyrics as we aim to stay a family friendly page). Art is also a form of self-expression, a gift of the divine/nature/cosmos (how ever your path sees it) and is also welcome under the same guidelines as music. Please also educate others about your path, the history, the culture, food, language, and philosophies. Take the time to politely dispel misconceptions.
