Juniper is beautiful, lovely and friendly. She has been with the rescue for several months. Saved from the Stanislaus shelter.

She was only there because of a medical condition. Her time had run out at the shelter and because we have a volunteer in this rescue who understands and very much advocates for dogs with EPI, Juniper became a CalPaws dog.

When she left the shelter she was very thin, very thin. This is indicative of dogs suffering with EPI.

Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency (EPI) in dogs is a serious digestive disorder where the pancreas fails to make enough digestive enzymes. Without these enzymes, a dog cannot break down or absorb food, leading to severe weight loss, despite a ravenous appetite and chronic, greasy diarrhea. Without diagnosis it is torture for a dog, but the reality is the treatment is actually pretty simple and can help a dog lead a very normal and productive life.

For a dog like Juniper, a gem, a gentle soul, she can easily be the most amazing dog and an amazing addition to any family, just given a chance.

The enzymes are not expensive and with the management of good food, Juniper is a dog that will thrive and thanks to Nicole, she has.

Juniper currently lives with Nicole. She has her looking amazing and she is ready to be in her forever home. Her foster fur brother, Rocket, also has EPI and Juniper is excellent with both resident dogs. She is good with kids and truly this dog is a gentle soul.

She has become a pro of driving in the car, being a side kick and has become a solid dog at our events. Crate and house trained as well as being amazing on leash, this sweet girl has become an amazing dog.

We believe in her so much that we would like to offer to the new family the support of providing the enzymes as well as her food for six months. This is more than enough time and support to transition her seamlessly into her new home.

We are willing to start as a foster to adopt and of course this means Nicole would continue to offer guidance. We ask you just give this girl a chance as she is very much worth it.

Towards the end of May one of our vets referred someone to the rescue about a mama and her 9 puppies. I received a call and she was asking for our help in rehoming the puppies and ultimately the mama.

Of course we helped, we provided all the supplies, raised funds, drove hundreds of miles to meet mama and her babies. We vaccinated, paid for medical appointments and got the litter ready for adoption. In many cases this can become at least a two month commitment for us from when we bring in a mama to when the puppies go to their forever homes. Mama’s always take longer.

When I first met Mama Maya she was a little wild. She had been born on the farm land where she gave birth to her own puppies. Still a baby herself, she was exposed to the elements and all of the other semi wild dogs, who were also dumped in the area. Getting pregnant for these female dogs is not a matter of if, but rather, when.

The “City” litter were her second litter. The first litter all passed, mama was unable to keep her babies safe in the open space. So when she became pregnant a second time the person who was advocating for her could not watch all the puppies die again, so she decided to help.

When I met mama her coat was oily, she was skinny and her udders hung droopy from nursing. She was a wild thing not wanting to stay put and wanting to return to the open space she had come to know as home.

So the day came for getting the pups and even though it was explained mama needed six more weeks before she could be ready to go to her forever home, she was brought with the pups.

Refusing to keep the mama she had advocated for, partly because she was wild, and simply because the foster was done. We had to figure something out and quickly.

Mama Maya was placed in a kennel as we had no open fosters. An issue we deal with daily in rescue and with the amount of dogs we are asked to help, it creates additional stress. She still needed her medical and so we waited.

We finally got her medical completed and made arrangements for a flight from the Valley to the Sacramento area. We found a new foster who was excited for the arrival of her new addition. A blessing for us when we have a wonderful place for our mama’s go and where she is wanted.

Mama was still thin, her coat shedding, tuffs of her fur hanging all along her body as if begging to be plucked from her coat.

She looked worn and unkept. Apologetic to her new foster for her messy look, but relieved as Maya instantly crawled up onto the teenager’s lap. It was lovely and any feelings about how she looked was set aside as Maya clearly had a beautiful disposition. How she looked did not really matter, how she acted was key, as this was a new foster meeting a new dog.

Jessica and her family brought Maya into their home and quickly Jessica shared the concerns. The separation anxiety, the house training, things that were not addressed in the last home. But this had become the home where it was all about Maya. Showing her love, investing time and to be honest a rescues dream, to have a family so committed to Maya’s wellbeing. She had become a dog who just existed and was somewhat of a burden, to becoming a beautiful dog.

Last Friday, we attended a venue for an opening of a new business. We were asked to attend with several of our dogs as well as puppies. I noticed a dog at the venue, she was beautiful, her coat shinny, she was regal and Cassidy and I commented on how striking she was and how much she reminded her of her own dog. I agreed.

There was a lot happening at the venue with children and puppies. My attention was on the activity so when a quiet moment came I focused my attention on the beautiful dog. It was only then I realized this was our foster, Jessica, and the dog with her was our very own Maya.

She sat beautifully, she let people pet her, she was calm and she was absolutely stunning. This dog had completely transformed from a wild and crazy girl to a demure and striking creature. I can only say this is why fostering makes such a difference. Maya is finally ready for her forever home. So please if you are open to an adult dog please consider Mama Maya. She is amazing!

Big Bang Litter!

Penny, Raj, Leonard and Sheldon and Mama Tina have been with the rescue for several weeks. They came from the Fresno Humane Shelter and were expected to be euthanized before we stepped in.

Originally this was a litter of five, but unfortunately we lost one puppy due to being sick.

For the Big Bang litter they are all little pups estimated to be approximately 8 weeks they are about 8 lbs. Fully grown we expect them to weigh between 32-38lbs.

These babies are super sweet, they love cuddle time and yesterday they attended their very first event at the Taplands located in Santa Clara. These pups spent hours being cuddled and gave the gift of warming so many hearts. These are amazing babies, with the best dispositions. Like all of our puppies we work on crate and house training.

Today is two for two day!

It is day two of our event packed weekend! Today we have an event at El Dorado Hills Pet Food Express, as well as The Taplands in Santa Clara!

We were lucky enough to be invited to the Grand Opening of the Orangevale Car wash and dog wash.

Was a great turn out in this community and we were able to attend. Good food, good music and of course lots of puppy love.

For Maya and Sunny they did an incredible job of saying “hello” to lots of new folks. Of course the puppies are always a hit and everyone enjoys cuddling the babies.

Thank you to Downtown Orangevale Car wash for inviting and hosting a fabulous venue. We love supporting local businesses and ones that give back to the community.

Meet our newest little rockers!🎸

Named after some of classic rock’s greatest icons, they’ve got big personalities, puppy swagger, and plenty of kisses for their future groupies. No backstage pass required… just a forever home 🥰

Meet Stevie. She is the only girl of the crew. She is gentle and loving and affectionate, but also has sass and s***k because being the only girl with four brothers, you have to be built tough.

Bowie is our soft gentle boy. He loves to be held and snuggle close, he will never turn down a cuddle. So far, he has been the calmest of the group. He has such an easy-going gentle spirit.

Hendrix is our confident boy. He knows how cute he is. He is the first one to ask for loves and the last one to walk away from them. He is gentle with his litter mates, but will throw down if one of them get too sassy with him.

Lennon is a love and a definite mama’s boy. He is sweet and s***ky and will gladly entertain himself by throwing his toys in the air. He’s never too demanding, but also never too far away just in case you decide you want to pick him up and smother him with kisses.

Jagger is our other gentle nugget. The moment you pick him up, he will clean to you almost like he’s hugging you back. He is calm and he is observant. He is not pushy or demanding. He also will never turn away a good snuggle sesh.

This all star crew is German Shepherd, Australian Cattle dog and Siberian husky 🥰

These babies are lucky though. They have been blessed to be raised by their mama, Kira. She is the real star of the show. She’s put in all the hard work day in and day out. She’s petite at only 40 pounds. She is gentle and still almost a puppy herself and approximately one year old. She is dog friendly, cat friendly and great with kids of all ages. She is being fostered with two large male dogs, a six-year-old little girl, a 16-year-old as well as a 20-year-old cat and does great with everybody.

Mama and her greatest hits are all looking for their new forever families. Don’t miss out as the tour won’t last forever.❤️🐾

Tears for our sweet Cody boy and this time they are tears of joy!

Many of you may remember us sharing the heartbreaking story of Cody’s return. It hit not only our hearts but many of yours. We knew how important it was to share how this turned out. Today it all came full circle. We watched Cody go off to his new life. To know this breed is to love this breed, and he found the people that do both. 

Cody is going off to a loving family. He will be special and he will be loved. He will get exactly what he and all dogs deserve.

Go live your absolute best life our sweet dude and we look forward to all the updates!❤️🐾

Meet Wowie!

She is a single girl, like many of our other puppies she was abandoned when she was only weeks old. No mama and no siblings.

Wowie is 7 weeks old and looking for her forever home. We added her to another litter so she could benefit from being socialized with puppies the same age.

When we got her she was riddled with parasites and now she is a healthy girl. She is up to date on her vaccines and learning about big dogs, cats and little dogs.

Wowie is a pro in the car and does well in a crate. We are working on potty training. Wowie is super sweet, super smart. We believe she is a shepherd mix but we have not done DNA.
