The day is finally over and we have been looking at all the pictures we took through out the day.

Today 22 puppies and 5 adults posed for the camera. Yesterday, 9 puppies and 1 adult made their debut.

Over the next couple of days we will be announcing the names of all the puppies and the theme of the litter.

This is where we start learning about each of the pups and working towards finding them their forever homes.

These babies will be living their best lives in homes where they are wanted. You can’t ask for anything better than that.

All the puppies are now available on the website at CalPaws.org 🩷🩷🩷

Welcome Mama Maya and her City Pups.

Maya has been a stray in the Central Valley for quite sometime. We believe this litter is not her first, but we will make sure this is her last.

We will also be making sure mama finds the most amazing home, as she deserves the best.

Maya’s litter, the city pups, consists of 5 boys; Dallas, Redding, Boston, Denver and Phoenix.

The girls; Charlotte, Cheyenne, Savannah and Aspen. These babies are almost 4 weeks and have a few more weeks before they will be officially available.

Today was our first official photo shoot. So much cuteness! 🩷

I packed up my personal dogs, my foster dog and I loaded up in the van. When you are in rescue, you come armed; a chip reader, a leash, a collar and dog food. These are the things you need to bring with you anywhere you go as animals seem to know you offer help.

I had barely made it into town when someone was flickering their headlights. As I approached, I saw a buck had run out onto the road and it was hit by a car. It was badly injured and clearly was in a lot distress. I made a call to the local sheriff’s office dispatch.

A small group of people had assembled and they moved the buck to the side of the road. We all waited for the deputy sheriff.

Forty minutes later, I was back on the road. A long drive always means I can catch up on phone calls, while heading to the valley.

I would be visiting the valley for just a few days of rescue, but this particular visit meant I would be checking in with multiple fosters. 1 mama and her 11 pups, a 2nd mama and her 9 pups. Three dogs in the kennel awaiting movement into foster homes. Dropping a dog off to get spayed. Bringing supplies and of course, bringing lots of support.

I just made it to the valley and started making plans for the next three days. I received a text message. It was started with an apology and quickly I could see Angie’s plea’s for help. Angie is one of the few people in the Valley that I trust. She does good rescue and I have so much respect for her. Not only does she do a lot of rescue but she does hard rescue.

Reedley is a small town located south of Fresno. It is an area where it is not considered a priority to spay or neuter your animals. No support from those in local municipality, sad really, as no effort is made to make change. This also means that people like Angie are alone in the battle.

I called her and after listening to the overwhelming problems in Reedley, I could not be another person to not listen to her and all the issues that come with animal welfare.

The text was explaining a situation involving a homeless encampment in Reedley. A pregnant dog from the homeless encampment found an abandoned house to have her babies and to keep them safe.

For weeks they have remained inside the abandoned building. Now they are of age and filled with curiosity and the need to explore.

A total of 12 puppies, all vulnerable to the elements. Unvaccinated they are prey to disease and the hope is to keep them safe and alive.

Angie asked if we had any available fosters. The answer is always the same, we are always in need and we seem to step up and make it happen but for every one puppy another four need our help.

The big picture is something has to happen. At some point it has to be noticed that shelters and rescues can not sustain this.

All I can think of is the episode of I love Lucy. The one where she is working with Ethel on the conveyer belt and she is sorting the chocolates and eating them. It does not take long to get behind and to start feeling the pressure. I only wish it was chocolate and not the endless supply of
Puppies.

So I am posting as we want to help these puppies, but we need your help. It takes a lot to handle puppies and right now we are juggling 4 mama’s and their litters. Having a litter of pups is really an amazing experience, but it takes a lot to manage, to provide supplies and get all the medical coordinated.

If you have not met Luna, you should. She is an old soul and a dog with a past where it is obvious she was not treated well.

She is one of many dogs in the San Joaquin county left to fend for herself. This has been an “owners” solution to getting rid of a dog abandoning them when they no longer have a use for the dog.

Unfortunately, this has become the norm in California and even though a few laws exist, it is not preventing this from happening to dogs like Luna.

Luna was lucky as Alicia and her family have been her safety, her security and of course her advocate.

Since Alicia reached out and asked us for help, we were able to help with medical, supplies, while this lovely family became Luna’s foster family. This has been how we can help so many is becoming the support.

Luna is looking for her forever home, her own home and even though Alicia has been kind enough to help Luna it does not mean they should not have to keep a dog they were not actively looking to add to their family.

This is what Alicia wanted to share about Luna.

Meet Luna 🤍🐾

Luna is the kind of dog who just wants to be loved — and once you meet her, it’s impossible not to fall for her.

She is incredibly sweet, affectionate, and deeply snuggly. Luna’s favorite place is right next to her person, whether that’s curled up beside you on the couch, stretched out on the bed, or simply resting close enough to feel safe and loved. She has the softest, most soulful way of looking at you — the kind of gaze that says she’s been waiting her whole life for someone to finally be hers.

Luna is a smart girl, too. She’s already learned sit and lay down, and she’s eager to please the people she trusts. Beneath her gentle heart is a dog who just wants stability, kindness, and a home where she can finally relax and be someone’s baby.

Luna has clearly been through more than she ever should have, and because of that, she can be a little cautious with some strangers and uncertain around other dogs. We believe she may have had some difficult experiences in the past, and she deserves a home that will make her feel safe, secure, and protected moving forward.

For that reason, Luna would do best as the only pet in the home, where she can soak up all the love and attention she’s been missing. And honestly? She would thrive being someone’s whole world.

If you’re looking for a loyal, loving companion who will bond deeply and adore being by your side, Luna may be your girl. She doesn’t need much — just a soft place to land and a human to love her the way she’s always deserved. 🤍

Every once in a while we get a picture that moves us, inspires us and makes us want to do more.

This picture is at the quarry, located in Tulare and it is one of those pictures. The animal control officer snapped this picture of the mother and father sandwiched between their five remaining off spring.

Who knows how long they were out there, but this is not how we should be treating these beautiful creatures in this state by abandoning them and expecting them to survive.

The hardest part of the situation were mum and dad were euthanized as only the puppies were viable. Sometimes we show up just in time and sometimes we are a little late, either way we step up and save who we can. A couple of the pups were adopted and so we brought the remaining three beauties into CalPaws. These babies are all boys.

Our village wanted to help them and yesterday they got their freedom ride from Visalia airport to Sacramento Airport.

Welcome Stone, Ridge and Banks to the rescue. This is the Quarry litter.

We are hoping to find either Foster’s or adopters fairly quickly as these puppies need to be separated as they are getting older. They would benefit by being socialized with other dogs and of course people. They are lovely and so beautiful. ❤️

A little about each boy.

Stone:

Stone is the ring leader. Super confident right off the bat. He will get right in your lap for cuddles. No fear at all and lots of kisses.

Banks:

Banks is pretty confident but takes a bit longer to warm up. He will stand at a distance and talk to you for a few minutes before he comes over for a pet. Doesn’t want to be in your lap but will hang out close by enough for some affection. He is definitely a middle child.

Ridge:

Ridge is the shy guy. He is precious and you can tell he is going to realize how much he loves snuggles and then never want them to stop.

What’s your favorite word that starts with the letter G?

Goofy. Gentle. Genuine. Golden. Graceful. Great. Gregarious. Gleeful. Gutsy. Gifted. Good-hearted. There’s so many happy “g” words!

What’s our favorite?

GRIFF!!!

This 4 month old handsome all-white shepherd mix is summer time all wrapped up in one fluffy package. If there’s water nearby, Griff is probably already splashing through it. Swimming, wading, and making waves with his paws, he lives for water adventures and is always ready for lake days, river trips, beach outings, or backyard pool parties.

Beyond his love of the water, Griff is an all-around wonderful companion. He’s great with kids, loves other dogs, and has a happy, easygoing personality that wins people over wherever he goes.

Whether you’re looking for a hiking buddy, swimming partner, family dog, or loyal sidekick for everyday adventures, Griff is ready to join in.

Summer is here, and Griff is ready to make memories. All he needs now is a family to share them with.

Who needs a little more Griff in their life? You can find him in the “g”’s at CalPaws.org!
