Tamu Orphans Support Fund

TOSF is dedicated to providing a comprehensive early life support system for AIDS-orphaned children

We are reminded of those who have not experienced the advantage of a normal home life, good education, and access to health care, and the everyday life needs like clean water and electricity. There are currently eight children receiving support from TOSF who have been placed in local homes. Siblings are kept together and receive loving care and needed guidance from their foster parents/relatives.

They are required to go to school (fully supported by TOSF) and receive health care as required or needed at a local clinic and hospital. TOSF works closely with the local health care providers and pays for any services which supported children need. After seven years we want to share with our friends and acquaintances the accomplishments even a small group of supporters can affect. We hope that this page will encourage you to follow our progress and join us in improving the lives of Tamu children and their village one child at a time; one family at a time. So much is needed but if each of us contributes only a small amount, we can make a difference. Our support group over the past seven years has grown from nine to over 300. Our accomplishments include:

- Tamu now has a new source of fresh water. A new well was successfully drilled and supplies fresh water to any villager who is in need. The well is equipped with an electric and a manual pump and is monitored for water quality on a regular basis.

- One of the main foster homes was recently wired for electrical service. Children staying in the foster homes throughout the village now are able to gather in the evening after dinner and study together under the supervision of supportive adults. Refrigeration permits the storage of perishables freeing up time for foster parents to devote to working with the children on other needs.

-One of our earliest supported children just entered College and receives a partial scholarship for tuition based upon his outstanding academic achievement in high school.

- A new fence provides security from outside predators for our gardens and chickens

On this year, we are raising $5k to help support our students' additional costs due to the pandemic. Our students have been continuing their education at home during this health crisis resulting in higher costs to their guardians. In order to provide adequate funding to continue their studies, we are relying on our wonderful TOSF family, friends, and community to help cover the increased cost of learning.

This year, all donations made on December 1, 2020 will be matched by Facebook and their corporate partners. Help us celebrate this by giving the gift of a continuing education to our hard-working students.

Meet Maurice. Maurice is a wonderful success story. Orphaned by HIV/AIDS, he joined the Tamu home at the age of 5. Maurice is now in his last year at the university to complete his degree in Environmental Science and begin his career as an Eco-scientist. In addition to his educational pursuits, Maurice loves soccer and enjoys playing in the local district league. Maurice’s success is a great example for current and future students supported by Tamu Orphans Support Fund.
