The Piney Flats Historical Society had a great meeting Monday evening. We had several guests, and discussed a number of projects for 2026. The organization, which has a mission to preserve the community's history, holds a quarterly business meeting, and plans to also meet the last Saturday of every month for work meetings (beginning in February). We are also currently collecting photographs of scenes from Piney Flats for our next calendar. So if you have any photos, please email them [email protected].

Merry Christmas from the Piney Flats Historical Society!

Here is a photo taken a few years ago of the John Bunyan Wolfe House on Main Street decorated for the holidays. The historic home, built by the founder of the Wolfe Brothers company, was constructed around 1900.

A Look Back: The Wolfe Brothers Factory of Piney Flats

This historic photo captures one of Piney Flats’ most enduring landmarks, the Wolfe Brothers Factory, founded in 1888 by John Bunyan Wolfe. For more than a century, Wolfe Brothers & Co. was known for crafting household furnishings and custom church furniture, earning a reputation for quality and craftsmanship that reached well beyond our community.

John Bunyan Wolfe was more than just a furniture maker. In addition to his factory, he established a local phone system and a power plant that brought electricity to Piney Flats residents.

The Wolfe Brothers Factory ultimately closed in 2000.

Did you or do you know someone that worked at Wolfe Brothers? Or does your church, or even your home, have Wolfe Brothers furnishings?

We had a great meeting on Monday evening when Robert Sorrell spoke about the history of local theaters, including the Twin City Drive-In in nearby Bristol. Did you know residents in Piney Flats could ride the bus to nearby Bristol or Johnson City to see a movie?

Club members also discussed upcoming history projects, as well as the recently installed Little Free Library near Piney Flats United Methodist Church. You can learn more about the Piney Flats Historical Society in the most recent edition of the Village Voice. Email us at [email protected] and we will send you the Village Voice.

We hope to see you in January 2026 at our next quarterly meeting.
