We are often asked why we welcome law enforcement, first responders, and veterans — yet don’t openly recruit.

The answer is simple: what we stand for can’t be sold, and it can’t be handed out. It must already live within you.

We honor service, discipline, and integrity — values that come from a life of commitment to something greater than yourself. These values are found in those who have worn a badge, served this country, or run toward danger when others run away.

We don’t recruit because we’re not looking to grow at any cost. Brotherhood isn’t a numbers game — it’s forged through shared purpose, earned respect, and tested loyalty.

If you belong here, you’ll know. And if you know, you’ll find your way.

I’m reminded where and why this phrase has originated. “I am my brother’s keeper” comes from the biblical story of Cain and Abel in Genesis 4:9. After Cain kills his brother Abel, God asks him where Abel is. Cain responds, “Am I my brother’s keeper?”

Cain meant it as a deflection of the hateful wicked action he took against his brother. But The phrase has come to mean almost the opposite of Cain’s deflection: Yes—I have a responsibility toward my brother.

I share what it means to me, to us here at Wrecking Crew with hope it explains our mindset and actions. Hope it motivates and convicts where needed.

To say “I am my brother’s keeper” means:

* I look out for my brothers. I don’t turn my back when things get difficult.
* I protect, rather than exploit. My brother’s safety and well-being matter to me.
* I hold my brothers accountable. Loyalty doesn’t mean blindly supporting someone when they’re doing wrong.
* I carry burdens with them. When one brother is struggling, the others don’t simply watch from a distance.
* I show up. Brotherhood is demonstrated through actions, sacrifice, and presence—not just words.
* I don’t abandon my own. A brother shouldn’t have to face his darkest moments alone.

There is also an important distinction between loyalty and enabling. Being your brother’s keeper can mean having the courage to tell your brother the truth when everyone else is afraid to.

On July 30, 2026, Backlash, a member of our Texas Chapter suffered a devastating accident while riding. Backlash has undergone six (6) reconstructive surgeries on his hip, leg and knee and is now heading towards the rehabilitation stage.

Backlash also known as Sergeant Jason Smith is a Marine Corp Veteran and First Responder in Hayes County Texas. Backlash has spent his life sacrificing and serving others and now could benefit from the same community he’s served offering their support back.

Every Enter the Lion retreat is provided 100% free of charge to first responders and veterans because of the generosity of people like you.

Not only do donors cover lodging, meals, and retreat expenses, but we’re often able to provide travel scholarships so warriors can attend regardless of financial barriers.

The cost to sponsor one first responder or veteran is approximately $1,000, including travel.

• $10 provides a breakfast for a warrior at retreat
• $50 helps cover retreat materials (patches, binders, etc)
• $100/month sponsors a full retreat experience and travel scholarship
