Just want to give a friendly remind to everyone that on AUGUST 17th we are having a protest against FASCISM on EKU campus. This semester we will make sure they know that they can’t treat students like commodities and expect us not to fight back. Join us!
This year Eastern Kentucky University has went through some tremendous changes. Starting with the repealing of all DEI policies and specifically attacking programs and spaces on campus meant to promote diversity, the administration is trying to limit the ability of non-white and LGBTQ students to express themselves or feel welcome on campus. In addition to this, there was recently a tuition increase, making the campus which calls itself a “place of opportunity” for first year students from Appalachia even more innaccessible to working-class people looking for an education. This is all happening in the midst of education cuts by the federal government, the increase in deportations and ICE raids, and the ongoing genocide in Gaza. These policies are clearly racist and sexist and part of the US’ decline into fascism and complicity in genocide.
We want to start off this semester by making it clear that students at EKU make up the very demographics that are targeted by these policies, and that we do not stand for it. They can’t keep pushing us and expect us to be idle!
