We are the Boy Scouts of Troop 502, located in Pineville, N.C. A few weeks ago, our trailer and gear were stolen from the church premises where we meet. We are working with local police; however, it does not appear the thieves will be caught. While the trailer was recovered in a field, it was
severely damaged, and all gear was missing. The only thing left was one spare tire. The most heartbreaking items missing are our troop flag and awards, as well as a few handmade items and plaques made by our leaders and scouts over the past 25 years our troop has been active.
A claim was filed by the church and was denied by the insurance company as they deemed the property to be owned by the troop and not the church. Our positive hopes for some insurance restitutions have now led to despair, and our Troop simply does not have the extra funds to repair the trailer and replace our equipment. While we can live with trailer dents and scrapes, it needs new doors and locks that the thieves destroyed in trying to gain access. While we cannot replace our one-of-a-kind mementos, we are working hard to make new memories and go forward from this selfish and unscrupulous act. Trailer repairs, tents, coolers, stoves, cookware, etc., are some of our expenses.
While this has been a devastating and tough time for the Scouts, our Duty to God, Duty to Country and Duty to Self fundamental principles of Scouting will not waiver. We thank you in advance for any equipment you can offer to help us re-build. Should you wish to order online and have an item shipped, we have provided our Scoutmaster's address to do so. If you wish items to be picked up or dropped off, please email us at [email protected] and we will arrange to do so. Continued on SoKind link…
