Nahum 1:3 tells us that God “will not at all acquit the wicked” therefore someone had to pay the sin debt we accumulated for ourselves (Romans 6:23) starting at the Garden of Eden. Mankind sinned, and continues to sin against a Holy God. But in His mercy God comes down and pays our debt as a man. Because it is man that sinned against God therefore man must pay. Yet the blood of a mere sinful man would not suffice for the debt we owe. But Jesus, being both God and man, pays the debt for man and satisfies the whole debt with His divine and perfect blood. And now, although we have feared death all of our lives as enemies of God, we can have peace knowing He has taken our sin upon Himself, burying it in the grave, raising Himself from the dead, defeating death so that those who repent of their sin and put their trust in Him can have life. Amen.
