The blue cornflower stands as a powerful symbol of hope for those affected by ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis). Although it appears delicate, this resilient wildflower thrives even in the harshest conditions, maintaining its vibrant hue against the odds. Just like the individuals living with ALS, it embodies courage, inner strength, and an unyielding spirit, reminding us to find beauty and resilience in the face of challenges.

At 2 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 13, Dr. Richard Bedlack from the Duke ALS Clinic will lead a webinar: “Cured by Curcumin? Untangling another ALS X-file.” Curcumin, one of the ingredients in tumeric and curry powder, has several biological effects that could be useful in treating ALS. There are three validated "ALS reversals" that occurred on curcumin, and there was even a "positive" clinical trial done in Iranian patients with ALS. This webinar will review the interesting background science on curcumin and outline a new patient-centric clinical trial of a particular form of it that will occur at Duke University this year.
