For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.

More Than A Retreat

When Rev. Brian Beeks first visited Moneto Camp & Retreat Center in the spring of 2016, the camp had only recently begun welcoming groups again after being closed for several years. During a tour with Shane, a longtime friend and site manager at the time, Brian heard the vision for what the camp could become. Inspired by both the setting and the mission, he caught a vision of his own: bringing his church family to Camp Moneto for a weekend getaway. That Labor Day, Monticello UMC held its first Family Get Away at the camp.

Families that come to Camp Moneto often arrive carrying the weight of busy schedules and everyday pressures. Life is full, and meaningful time together can be difficult to find. Many people simply need a place where they can step away from the demands of daily life, reconnect with one another, and find space to reflect on their faith.

For Rev. Beeks, Camp Moneto provides exactly that. Through shared activities, relationships, and time spent enjoying God's creation together, families experience something that is increasingly rare. Children explore the outdoors alongside their parents; generations connect in meaningful ways; and the distractions of everyday life fade into the background. Brian has seen God work through these simple but powerful moments, using camp as a place of spiritual safety, renewal, and transformation.

The impact doesn't end when families pack up to go home. Months later, parents and children still talk about their time at camp, reminding Brian that the effort required to organize each retreat is worthwhile. Some campers tell him, "I can't wait to return to camp next year!" Others simply say, "This is just what we needed."

Looking back, Brian believes places like Camp Moneto are worth protecting. The camp's peaceful setting, dedicated volunteers, generous donors, and purpose of being set apart for God have created more than a retreat center. It’s a place where lives are changed, families grow closer, and people find renewal that lasts well beyond a single weekend.

As camp came to a close, they left challenged to continue following Jesus, trusting His Word, and sharing His love wherever they go.

That's a wrap on Camp 2026! Can't wait to see you all again next summer!

As camp came to a close, campers were reminded that their adventure with Jesus continues long after Pine Creek ended.
