Check your mailbox! You should have recently received the Lake Ada lakeshed plan (pictured) from Cass Soil and Water Conservation District at your property tax mailing address.

Lots of great information about our lake, what we can do to keep it healthy, and resources that Cass SWCD has available to help us.

Don’t let your fire be the one that gets away this fishing opener! ❤️‍🔥🐦‍🔥
Fire danger has been increasing due to dry and windy weather.

Follow these wildfire prevention tips to drastically reduce the chances of your fire getting away.

Always:
• Keep it small, not tall. Campfires should be 3 feet high by 3 feet wide or smaller.
• Build campfires in a fire pit or rock ring to keep it contained.
• Clear all flammable material 5 feet around the fire.
• Always stay by your fire.
• Make sure it’s out cold. If it’s too hot to touch, it’s too hot to leave!

Play it safe; if fire danger is high or the weather is dry and windy, consider foregoing the campfire this weekend.

Pine River Library is looking for volunteers who can help us construct our new raised garden beds! 🌻

We've partnered with Happy Dancing Turtle and Henry's Woodworking for the plans and materials, now we just need the labor! Do you have basic carpentry skills, such as measuring, cutting, and assembling with screws? Are you up for the challenge of leveling three 4' x 8' plots? Can you work as a team? We need you! 👍

Our goal is to get a handful of volunteers together the week of May 25th to install the beds within a few hours. The materials, hardware, and tools will be ready. Main tasks will involve leveling the plots, cutting notches in the boards, and fitting them together with screws.

This project will compliment our summer reading program "Plant a Seed, Read". Our participants will watch our garden grow throughout the program and (fingers crossed) harvest some of the goodies to share.

Please call 218-587-4639 or email [email protected] for more information. Thank you for your support!

Planting a tree during Arbor Month is the best way to Plant It Forward, but how you plant and care for your tree makes a big difference in growing it forward!

Here are four quick tips to help your tree get a strong start:

🌳 Pick the right tree for the right place. Match the tree to your soil, sunlight, and available space.

🌱 Plant it right. Loosen the roots, dig a hole twice as wide as the root ball, and keep the top of the root ball level with the ground.

💧 Water consistently. Young trees need 15–25 gallons of water per week during the growing season for the first few years.

🍩 Mulch in a donut. Make a woodchip mulch ring 3 inches deep and about 3 feet wide, keeping mulch 3 inches away from the trunk. Avoid piling mulch against the trunk to keep the tree healthy.

A little care goes a long way toward growing healthy, long-lasting trees. For more tips and instructional videos visit: https://dnr.state.mn.us/arbormonth/

Want your trees to thrive? Mulch helps retain moisture in the soil and protect tree trunks from lawn mower damage, weeds, and competition from grass.

When mulching, be sure to follow the Rule of 3:
📏3 feet in diameter
📏3 inches deep
📏3 inches away from the trunk

Never make a mulch volcano! 🚫🌋 Piling mulch too deep and against the trunk can lead to rot, insects, and diseases. You should always be able to see the root flare where the trunk starts to widen before reaching the first woody root.

So happy with the Rendezvous For A Cause fundraiser yesterday - we raised over $1200 to be donated for planting trees along highway 371 through Hackensack! The beer was flowing, the music was fantastic, and our customers were extremely generous. Thanks to Charley Wagner, Momma Wags & Boomer, and Matt Gutzmann for sharing their music. Their happy vibes and joy kept the party going. Thanks also to Hatch Burrito for their delicious food, Erin Jansky for the really fun Treevia, Dovetail Partners for their Forest To Tap initiative, Minnesota Power for funding our tree giveaway (100 red pine tree seedlings were handed out to be planted locally!!), and of course none of this would be possible without you, our customers.

We are open 12-5 Sunday - stop by if you missed it, and to pick up some crowlers to take home with you.
