Occasionally I go through my P46Ten books and read what God spoke to me years ago during my quiet time with Him.

This was a while back, but really changed my life. I'm sharing it because I know I'm not the only Christian who deals with this. See, I grew up always feeling like I was in competition as a twin. (Notice I said "feeling." [[Self-inflicted]])

That competitiveness spilled over into every area of my life and as an adult all activities became something to accomplish - and accomplish well (Read: perfectionism downloading) until I no longer enjoyed doing anything.

God is about fun! He wants us to enJOY His creation, enJOY time with Him, and enJOY His Word. But too many Christians are trying to DO and PERFORM for Him instead of enjoying life with Him!

I won't keep going without sharing what He said to me till the end of this post, but I hope you read until the end. Here is my entry for that day:

"You are holding onto the false identity aspect of not being enough. That leads you to always try to perform- for everyone, even yourself. You are in competition with everyone, but the truth is that nobody is competing with you nor do they see your life as less than. You are still trying to prove to others and yourself that you're worth people's time, love, and attention. Give up the competition and understand that nobody else can do what I have called you to do for the Kingdom. "

Now, God said that to me, yes, but I know the Father's heart and that's what He would say to any of His children who feel "less than" or "not enough" so they are performing.

When Jesus visited Mary and Martha in their home (Luke 10:38-42), Mary chose spending time at Jesus' feet and listening to Him, while Martha got up to serve. Great intentions, but notice what Jesus said: " Martha, Martha, you are worried and troubled about many things. But one thing is needed, and Mary has chosen that good part... "

Choose the good part, which is always LOVE, and start enjoying life again! You are not in competition with anyone, and God loves you as He made you! (Psalm 139:13-18) Jesus said He came to give us life more abundantly (John 10:10)- and that includes having fun, enjoying life and people!

When was the last time you did something and enJOYed it?
When was the last time you enJOYed reading your Bible?
When was the last time you enJOYed the people around you?

This is your permission today to go have some fun! Take off the requirements of perfection. Remove the competition in your life. EnJOY whatever you do today, and do it as unto the Lord, and not man, because nobody can be you or do what God has called you to do for His Kingdom!

If this verse doesn't make you excited, go read Romans 8:28-

And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose. (NKJV)

and Jeremiah 29:11-

I know what I’m doing. I have it all planned out—plans to take care of you, not abandon you, plans to give you the future you hope for. (MSG)

When you speak God's Word, it WILL accomplish the purpose of God in your life. That's awesome! Be encouraged today that He will be Faithful to the promises in His Word!

Today I want to encourage you to do exactly what this verse says.

Be still.
That means take time to stop moving, still the noise around you, and just listen. Close your eyes and listen in expectation to hear your Father. He is always talking and always with you (Matthew 28:20.)

And know.
This "know" is not about head knowledge, but heart understanding. This takes time. Don't just sit for a minute (and that may be a challenge in itself because we live in a world that is constantly being pulled to go, go, go.) Give yourself the time to bask in God's Presence - wait for it! You are His sheep and hear His voice (John 10:27), so linger to hear.

That I am God.
Of course you know He is God, but again, sit under the weight of that statement and allow it to permeate all of the stuff and junk. You know- those things that keep nagging you (He is God and wants you to cast those cares on Him; all of them! 1 Peter 5:7); those people you're concerned about (He is Love and actually loves them more than you do, so make your request about them known and then expect Him to answer Philippians 4:6); and even your feelings of insignificance or unworthiness. Let Him tell you His plans for you - they are awesome, His love for you- its overwhelming and unconditional, and His thoughts toward you- which bring hope and are good (Jeremiah 29:11.)

The wisest man to ever live, Solomon, said that the principle thing in life is wisdom. He declared that the beginning of wisdom is the fear of the Lord. He goes on to encourage us to get understanding, which he defines as the knowledge of the Holy One.

Do not strive more for education that this world recognizes than for knowing the Lord and having a reverential fear of God. You will never waste time reading your Bible, for in it you commune with the Word, Jesus.

The life of a Christian is an exchanged life with Christ. Stop living as if it's about what you do or don't do- its all about what Jesus did!

Have you ever wondered how some Christians figure out what they are supposed to be doing: for God, for their ministry, for their life?

You need the Holy Spirit and that is a promised benefit for those who believe in and receive Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. The Bible says in John 10:27 that we are God's sheep and we hear His voice. You should be having a constant conversation with the One who created you, and then also keep an expectation that He will lead you and guide you. He wants to show you what you should be doing and what you should not be doing.

Abide in Him: get in the Word and learn what He sounds like, learn His personality, learn His will - and you will produce fruit and have the abundant life that Jesus came to give you.

Stop striving and start living from the place of your true identity. There is nothing you cannot do in Him, and there is nothing you can do to make Him love you more than He already does.

Daily Declaration: God's Plan is Great!
Listen, I get it, it can be discouraging in today's environment but be encouraged by this truth: God's ways are higher and greater than ours, He sees the big picture, and He has a wonderful plan for those who are His. So rest in His Faithfulness and say this with me:

"I declare that my God is in the heavens and He does whatever He pleases. His counsel stands forever. I rest in the truth that all things work together for good to those who love God and are called according to His purpose. He declares the end from the beginning, and nothing catches Him by surprise. I submit to His perfect timing and His sovereign will, for His ways are higher than my ways." Amen!

Daily Declaration: You have a Role in the Body of Christ

As Christians, we all have a part to play in this world, whether we hold a title in the church or not. Declare your calling to the ministry of reconciliation today. Say this with me:

"I am an ambassador for Christ, and God is making His appeal through me. I go into all the world and preach the Gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes. I am a fisher of men, a light in the darkness, and a witness of the resurrection. I live to see His Kingdom come and His will be done on earth as it is in heaven." Amen
