🔒 Staying Safe & Informed 🔒

Two weeks ago today, the Chipley Woman’s Club was honored to welcome Deputies Ryan Williamson and Alton Weeks of the Harris County, GA Criminal Investigations Division at our April meeting.

They shared important information on how to recognize and avoid today’s most common scams — from fraudulent jury duty and warrant calls to romance and emergency scams, misleading advertisements, tech support schemes, and payment fraud involving gift cards, bitcoin and wire transfers. They also highlighted in-person scams, including those targeting homeowners.

One key takeaway: many scams are designed to prey on emotions — creating urgency, fear or trust to catch victims off guard.

We are grateful for their time and for helping our community stay informed and protected. If you ever feel unsure or believe you may have been targeted, don’t hesitate to contact the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.

Awareness is one of the best tools we have.

🌼 A Living Memorial in Bloom 🌼

This spring, something truly meaningful has been blooming in Pine Mountain.

The Chipley Woman’s Club is proud to share that 1,500 daffodils planted last November on our property along the west side of the Man O’ War Recreation Trail created a beautiful and lasting living memorial as part of The Daffodil Project, an international program.

These daffodils honor the 1.5 million children who perished in the Holocaust and recognize children facing humanitarian crises around the world today.

As shared by our president, Mayor Mary Ruth Mullins, during our April meeting: "Each bloom represents a life, a story and a responsibility - to remember, to teach and to stand against hatred."

As this year’s blooms begin to fade, their meaning remains. These daffodils will return and expand year after year - and we already look forward to their renewal next spring as a continued symbol of remembrance, compassion and hope.

Wonderful meeting today at the Chipley Woman's Club. Not only was there a delicious spread full of everything good (have you tried Georgia Spread? It's fantastic! Thanks Dale for providing the recipe!). We also benefited from Vann Ellison's passion for supporting the least among us with empathy, structure, and humor.
