Remembering Chuck Hartgrove

Today, we honor and remember Chuck Hartgrove, retired Stokes County EMS Paramedic and Supervisor, who faithfully served our community for 31 years. Chuck was the kind of person who made a lasting impact—not just through his skill and dedication as a Paramedic, but through his compassion, his steady presence, and the way he genuinely cared for the people around him.

He was known for his warm spirit, his willingness to help anyone in need, and for the quiet strength he brought to every call, every shift, and every moment of service. Chuck touched countless lives, both in uniform and in the community he loved so deeply.

And for those who knew him well, we’ll never forget his trademark phrases—said with that familiar grin—“You know what I am saying,” and “Such is life.” Simple words, but ones that somehow always carried wisdom, comfort, or a little bit of humor right when we needed it most.

Chuck’s legacy lives on in the stories we share, the lives he saved, and the example he set for all who follow in his footsteps.
Thank you, Chuck, for 31 years of dedication, compassion, and heart. Stokes County is a better place because of you.

Today we honor one of our own!

In Memoriam: October 4, 1996 - LODD
Firefighter George Guyer, 38
Stokes-Rockingham Volunteer Fire Department. Pine Hall, North Carolina
On July 28th, Firefighter George Guyer was responding in his personal vehicle to a transformer fire when his truck hydroplaned on the wet road and collided with an oncoming truck.

This morning we hosted a Mutual Aid Training and it was a great success. Everyone really enjoyed it and got involved with it. For some of them it was their first time doing searches. Lots was learned today from the crews going in to the ones that were officers in charge (OIC). Thank you all to the personnel who showed up to train and to the amazing instructors who took time to work with the new guys. Just all around a great day of training!

PSA: Tomorrow 10/3/26 we will be hosting a large Mutual Aid Training at the old Pine Hall School. There will be a large Fire Department presence at the school around 9am until. We will be training on Search and Rescue Operations. You may even see some light smoke but not to worry it’s just from smoke machines. Please use caution in the area. This training is very important for us. It helps us to learn how to navigate though dark smoke filled rooms and how to use different tools like Thermal Image Cameras (TIC). Stay tuned for some amazing photos and videos!
