Copied but so true… A little long but please read and let it sink in..
I probably sound like a broken record, but it’s time for our community and pet owners to start being part of the solution instead of part of the problem. We NEED to start taking spay and neuter more seriously.
This week, I got a taste of what individuals at places like Smith's Pit STOP and UCAN Nonprofit Spay & Neuter Clinic deal with on a regular basis. And if you’re not willing to fix your animals, you’re still contributing to the problem.
There’s far more to spay and neuter than just much-needed population control. Yes, the system is overloaded, and there is nowhere for these animals to go. But I want you to think even bigger than that.
In this economy, most people are struggling to stay ahead. A HUGE veterinary bill can be a financial hit that many simply cannot afford.
You don’t want to neuter your male?
➡️What happens when he gets loose and gets hit by a car chasing a female in heat?
You don’t want to spay your female?
➡️What happens if she develops pyometra? This potentially life-threatening bacterial infection of the uterus can cost thousands of dollars to treat, with emergency surgery and round-the-clock recovery care potentially reaching upwards of $12,000.
You don’t want to spay your female because you want her to experience being a mom “just once”?
Are you willing to put her life at risk for pregnancy or labor complications that could result in serious illness or death for mom and her babies?
You don’t want to spay or neuter the animals in your home because of the cost?
Then consider the potential expenses of accidental litters, inbreeding, and the health complications that can come with irresponsible breeding.
There are low-cost options available!!!
There are people and organizations working tirelessly to make spay and neuter accessible to our community. They are putting in the work to help prevent more animals from being born into a system that is already stretched beyond its limits.
We cannot adopt our way out of this crisis.
And the reality is that many pet owners in our community are struggling to afford even the basic essentials for their animals, let alone a catastrophic veterinary expense.
Please stop making excuses and spay/neuter your pets!
Our shelters, humane societies, and rescues have nowhere else to put them.
Where will all these discarded lives go?!
The streets are filled with “strays,” and every day, more and more members of our community are rehoming, dumping, or, in some cases, euthanizing their animals because they feel they have no other choice.
Let that sink in.
We cannot continue to turn a blind eye to a problem that is preventable.
Every unwanted litter adds to an already overwhelming crisis. Every animal born without a plan for its future is another life that could end up in a shelter, on the streets, or in a home that simply cannot afford to care for it.
Spaying and neutering isn’t just about prevention. It’s about protecting the animals we already have, protecting the people who love them, and preventing more lives from being lost in a system that is already at its breaking point.
