Finding a Voice, Exploring Opportunities, and Building Leadership Skills!

National 4-H Week is a time to recognize how 4-H prepares young people for success through hands-on experiences, leadership development, and educational opportunities.

Today, we're highlighting Jordan Williams, a Pine Bluff High School 4-H member who has already experienced exciting opportunities during his first year in the program!

💬 Jordan Shares:

"My first year of 4-H has been great! I have been given the opportunity to explore the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville. Additionally, being a part of 4-H O-Rama has been nothing but great! I've gotten to compete in public speaking, and I've strengthened my public speaking skills. I've gained new relationships and met amazing people."

🎓 From exploring the University of Arkansas campus to participating in 4-H O-Rama and competing in public speaking, Jordan's journey highlights the educational opportunities available through 4-H.

Growing Confidence, Building Friendships, and Developing Life Skills!

As we celebrate National 4-H Week, the University of Arkansas Division of Agriculture – Jefferson County Cooperative Extension Service is proud to recognize the young people who are growing through 4-H.

Today, we're highlighting Aelya Abram, a Pine Bluff High School 4-H member who shares how the program has helped her develop responsibility, improve her social skills, and build meaningful friendships.

💬 Aelya Shares:

"4-H has taught me to be on time and to do things in an orderly manner. I'm so proud of the 4-H member I've become and the new friends I've made along the way. 4-H not only teaches you, but it also gives you the ability to open up and interact with others, and I couldn't love that any more than I do now."

Celebrating the People Who Make a Difference in the Lives of Our Youth!

In celebration of National 4-H Week, the University of Arkansas Division of Agriculture – Jefferson County Cooperative Extension Service is proud to recognize one of our dedicated 4-H volunteer leaders, Mrs. Larissa Davis! 💚

Mrs. Davis serves as the School Librarian at Pine Bluff High School (PBHS)and is a dedicated Jefferson County 4-H Club Leader.

Through her commitment to education and youth development, Mrs. Davis helps provide opportunities for young people to build confidence, develop leadership skills, and discover their potential.

💬 A MESSAGE FROM MRS. DAVIS:

"4-H gives our young people a place to discover their spark, develop confidence, and see themselves as leaders in their community. Whether they are exploring STEM, citizenship, public speaking, outdoor skills, or service, 4-H helps youth turn their interests into skills and their skills into opportunities. 🍀 OCTOBER IS 4‑H MONTH! 🌎

This month, we celebrate the worldwide 4‑H movement and the young people, families, volunteers, educators, and community partners who help make it successful.

From local communities in Arkansas to communities around the world, 4‑H helps young people learn by doing. Through agriculture, horticulture, science, technology, healthy living, leadership, and community service, youth develop skills they can use throughout their lives.

The four H’s represent:

🍀 Head — learning to think, plan, and solve problems
🍀 Heart — showing kindness, respect, and responsibility
🍀 Hands — serving others and developing practical skills
🍀 Health — making choices that support personal and community well-being

📸 SHARE YOUR 4‑H STORY!

We invite current and former 4‑H members, parents, volunteers, leaders, and supporters to share pictures from the past and present.

🌱 HORTICULTURE EDUCATION AND 4-H GARDEN CLUBS FOR LOCAL SCHOOLS! 🌱

Jefferson County schools are invited to partner with the Jefferson County Cooperative Extension Service to provide hands-on horticulture education and develop school garden clubs through Arkansas 4-H.

Programs can be customized for different grade levels and may include:

🌿 Plant science and gardening basics
🥕 Vegetable and herb gardening
🌻 Pollinator and native plant gardens
🪴 Plant propagation
💧 Soil health and water conservation
🐞 Insects and integrated pest management
🥗 Nutrition and healthy eating
💼 Youth leadership and garden entrepreneurship
🍀 Establishing a school-based 4-H Garden Club

These educational opportunities can support classroom learning while helping students develop leadership, teamwork, responsibility, and practical life skills.
