Congratulations to Shameka J. Martin, the 2026 Champion for Children Award Recipient at our recent CALL to Celebration! โœจ

The Champion for Children Award honors a DCFS Partner who exemplifies remarkable commitment and compassion and brings to life The CALLโ€™s Core Values in the care they provide.

This year, we allowed the DCFS supervisors in our six-county area to nominate colleagues and employees who meet this criteria.

Shameka's supervisor, Carveyetta Walker-Bridges had this to say:

"Shameka keeps Christ first in all she does everyday. She spear-headed a group within our office to fellowship with one another during our lunch break once weekly to discuss staying grounded in the Word of God on all aspects of life. She does excellent work that is service-oriented and is always accountable for the work she does to keep our children safe in their home amongst family, providing the families with the best services possible to ensure their well-being and permanency needs. She demonstrates a service-minded and positive attitude by providing helpful, courteous, responsive and knowledgeable service to all families, stakeholders and providers. She is fully available and attentive to those she serves even after hours and even when she is not on call. She maintains a professional demeanor and tries to diffuse difficult situations when serving families struggling with underlying mental health challenges or addictions. This recipient is grounded in her faith and trusts God first in everything. She is helpful, kind, completes tasks with grace for the benefit of others, especially when the job is hard, unappreciated or ignored."

Thank you for answering The CALL, Shameka! โœจ

Through the HCJ Kindness Initiative, our employee-directed charitable fund recently presented a grant to Home Again Pine Bluff to support its mission of revitalizing neighborhoods and helping individuals work toward self-sufficiency and homeownership.

Home Again renovates homes in Pine Bluff and provides qualifying individuals with affordable rental opportunities as they work toward personal and financial independence, with the ultimate goal of purchasing their home.

Giving back to the communities we serve is an important part of who we are at HCJ. Learn more about Home Again Pine Bluff online at www.homeagainpinebluff.org.

School is in full swing. Thank you Connected Families for these Trauma informed Tips.

For many children, back-to-school brings excitement. For children who have experienced trauma, it can also bring anxiety, uncertainty, and fear of the unknown.

As caregivers, teachers, and trusted adults, we can help by creating spaces where children feel safe and supported.

๐Ÿ’™ Keep routines as consistent as possible.
๐Ÿ’™ Prepare children for changes before they happen.
๐Ÿ’™ Respond with patience instead of frustration.
๐Ÿ’™ Offer encouragement and reassurance.
๐Ÿ’™ Remember that behavior is often communication.

Healing doesn't happen overnight, but calm, consistent care helps children build trust and resilience one day at a time.

What an amazing job our local DHS and DCFS employees do daily. Great job!!
