Ivy Center Future Medical Professionals/Club Scrub:

What an exciting evening of discovery, connection, and growth at the Club Scrub Workshop held at UAMS South Central Medical Center.

Tonight’s “Discover Your Healthcare Personality” workshop welcomed returning scholars and several new scholars, both in person and virtually. Scholars explored healthcare careers they had never heard of and discovered how their everyday passions, interests, and creativity can fit perfectly into a future healthcare career.

We were especially excited to welcome Braden Evans, a former Club Scrub 2 scholar from the Boys & Girls Club of Jefferson County, as a new Club Scrub member! Parents of our in-person and virtual scholars also joined us, and we are always excited to have their support and participation.

Danielle Harris, UAMS Education Coordinator and Club Scrub Director facilitated the workshop, and Dr. John Makary, a third-year UAMS South Central resident, joined us for an engaging Q&A session. It was truly super awesome to see the continued growth and enthusiasm of our scholars!

Our first Club Scrub workshop of the semester is officially complete, and we’re already excited about next month! Don’t miss the opportunity to discover, learn, and explore with us!

We were happy to have 12 in attendance in person and 10 to join on zoom.

After the exciting workshop presented by Ms. Harris,
Mattie Collins, President/CEO of the Ivy Center reminded the scholars to join the ACT Boot Camps coming up September 10th & 17th.

The Ivy Center for Education’s Future Medical Professionals/Club Scrub Program Project is a health careers exploration program designed to introduce scholars in grades 7-12 to the wide variety of opportunities available in healthcare through engaging, hands-on learning experiences.

During the 2026–27 program year, scholars will explore topics that connect healthcare careers with science, technology, wellness and real-world skills.

Monthly workshops will begin Tuesday with the exciting “Discover Your Healthcare Personality Session,” where scholars will explore their individual interests, strengths and personality traits and discover how they may connect to a variety of healthcare careers.

Throughout the year, scholars will continue exploring a variety of healthcare careers through interactive workshops, hands-on activities, career exploration and opportunities to learn from healthcare professionals. Each session is designed to expose scholars to new possibilities in healthcare while encouraging them to discover careers that align with their interests, strengths and future goals.

Danielle Harris serves as the Ivy Center for Education’s Club Scrub Facilitator and is an Education Coordinator for the UAMS South Central Regional Campus in Pine Bluff. She joined UAMS Regional Campuses in January 2021 and works with high schools, colleges and community partners throughout the South-Central region to promote healthcare careers and connect students with educational opportunities in the health professions.

A Pine Bluff native, Harris earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff and a Master of Arts in Teaching (M.A.T.) from Kaplan University. Prior to joining UAMS, she worked in education for eight years and served six years as a Program Specialist with the Arkansas Department of Human Services.

Through Club Scrub and other health career programs, Harris is passionate about helping students explore their interests, discover healthcare career possibilities and prepare for their educational and professional futures.

The Club Scrub Workshops are hosted at UAMS South Central Medical Center located at 1601 W. 40th Ave. (corner of 40th and Mulberry). Scholars are asked to arrive by 5:45 p.m. and enter the building from the rear. A light snack will be served. For Zoom access: Meeting ID: 85682964187 and Passcode: 351061.

We, the Ivy Center for Education are extremely proud of our very successful ACT Boot Camp Program Project led by the Awesome Dr. Charity Smith Allen and her Amazing team from Fetterman and Associates, Dr. Jamicia Joshua and Dr. Stanley Paul.

Preparation for the ACT is vital because high scores open doors to college admission and millions of dollars in merit-based scholarships. Early, focused study lowers test anxiety, builds strong academic habits, and gives students a clear edge in their future education and career plans.

We encourage scholars' 7th-12th grade along with parents and community supporters to join us. (On Zoom Only)
